Everyone is different. I highly suggest going to bereavement counseling. My mom did that after my dad passed. They had been married 54 years when he passed away and it was unbearable for her. The counseling really did help her learn how to cope.

My wife died about 6 years ago. It's hard for everyone, and each of us experiences similar grief stages in their own way.

I was really helped by attending a class on grief at the local hospice. If you can find something like that, signing up would be my recommendation to you.

Since you are obviously in pain, I recommend you go to the library or book store and get "On Death and Dying". It is the pre-eminent book on dying and the stages of death and acceptance. Since it is the holidays, and makes enjoying the season when you are missing your loved one, I recommend you make time for yourself and read this book. It may help you understand your emotions.

I lost my father 9 years ago, my mother is stronger each year, and I am proud of her. But it hasn't been easy. I miss my father terribly.

i recommend checking out the self help section at the bookstore because there are some very good books about the subject, but the usual responses include anger, denial, of course grief and sadness, and finally acceptance. if it's you, then i wish you peace in the new year.
