I went to the doctor about 4 days ago with an earache. He said I had an ear infection. He gave me antibiotics.
Well I no longer have ear pain but now I feel that there is fluid behind my ear drum. I can't hear good in that ear either. What can I do for it. It's Christmas Eve and the doc won't be open till the day after Christmas.

When I was a child I had many problems with my ears. I had my atnoids (sp?) and tonsils out and tubes put in my ears back then.

Try across the counter (OTC) sinus medication. It dries up you sinuses and works for your ears also. Tylenol sinus worked for my Husband.

Make sure you take the full course of antibiotics he prescribed. Just because the pain is gone doesn't mean the infection is gone. Not completing the full course risks it coming back and being antibiotic resistant.

If the doctor simply prescribed antibiotics you should stick with that and not try anything else. You might make it worse with home remedies. It may simply be that the fluid left by the infection needs time to dry up.

There are worse conditions that do leave things in your ear and might require an operation but I'd say you should wait until completing the antibiotics and scheduling your next appointment before jumpting to conclusions.

You may need to have tubes put in your ear. (don't try this at home) There is no self treatment for this but on the up side the sensation of having fluid in your inner could disappear at any time.

Try taking a decongestant , such as sudafed. It may take a day or two but should help.

As far as tubes... I have never heard of an adult needing them - unless their body was abnormal in that area.
