Let's use some peer pressure to stop drivers from driving vehicles that use more fossil fuel than necessary, such as SUVs in cities. If many people start honking at these vehicles, it will become unpleasant to drive them. How can I reach out across the nation to unite drivers of appropriately-sized vehicles in this art movement/social experiment?

Oh, you are such a left wing Liberal tree-hugging Democrat, I can't believe it. Maybe the next thing someone will want to do is harass you for something you own. Stop. Last time I checked this is still America and it is still legal to own and drive an SUV. Who gets to say what is an appropriate size vehicle? You?

Keep in mind that some of these big vehicles are haulling lots of people. I'm sure people would have liked to honk at my sister's Tahoe on our road trip last spring, but it had all 8 seats full!

Thanks for your concern, but I already drive a BIG HONKIN' SUV. Lets all consider the possibility that the asker is a dumbass tree hugging wacko who prays at the altar of ALGORE and believes that we'd all be better off if we lived in the stone age! Who the hell are you, moron, to tell me what size vehicle is appropriate for ME??!! Try minding your own damned business and leave the rest of us alone. If you want to drive a YUGO or some other tin can, I won't try to stop you, even though you are endangering your life because tiny, tin-can cars are dangerous. The funny thing is, people like you are the ones calling people like me fascists and Nazis. Look in the mirror, dumbass!!

It is illegal in the state of Washington to honk except in emergency. (Recent law)

Your effort would be hypocritical if you didn't include all vehicles with low gas mileage: pickup trucks, many sports cars and luxury cars, RVs, big rigs, etc. It should also exclude SUVs that do have reasonable gas mileage. Use www.fueleconomy.gov to identify the appropriate vehicles for your experiment.

What a wonderful, Facist, idea. You must be proud ! Perhaps
you should get a hobby that doesn't involve harrassing people
based on their choice of vehicles, and YOUR idea of right and wrong.

:-(

P.S. No, I don't drive an SUV.

why do you want to harass people because they drive big safe vehicles? why don't you start honking at all the people that are driving all those little tin can rice burners that allow the occupants inside to get severely hurt every time they're involved in an accident? if people would STOP driving small cars, LESS people would be getting hurt and/or killed and we would have more people around that could put more pressure on our lawmakers to put more pressure on the oil companies and auto makers to stop being greedy and do what's right for all of us. oh, i guess you didn't know there was supposed to be a dodge dakota pick up that got 40 mpg, but it got scrapped for some unknown reason. and while we're at it, i hope you aren't one of those idiots that still believes you should change your oil in your car every 3000 miles. yeah try switching to a good synthetic, you know, man made, and change it twice a year instead. PICK A BETTER WAR PAL it's not my fault that my 4x4 suburban get's 14 mpg's, but you better believe it was my fault when my wife and 2 little girls walked away from that 4x4 suburban when a 2004 chevy cavalier ran into the back of it at 45 mph. yeah, totaled that little car, but my family was unhurt. yeah, you're right let's piss off a bunch of people to prove our point, but let's make sure we act all grown up when we piss off the wrong person, say one that has been honked at one too many times and whips out that 9mm hand gun. oh, you should know those little 9mm bullets will go right through the door of your little honda accord or toyota camry, both very fine cars, but won't take you into the backwoods with your family so you can spend a weekend with them teaching them good moral values like how to respect others and help save the world the right way instead of trying to make just one more thing unpleasant for someone. no thanks, the next time i see a great big suv, if i'm not feeling insecure because his is bigger than mine, i'm going to sit there for a minute and admire it, maybe tell him or her what a nice suv they got. then i'm going to drive off because some guy in a volkswagen just honked at me but i'm not gonna get mad at him because i like volkswagens, especially mine, but he better not honk at me again. then i'm gonna stop off at the gas station and fill up my 4x4 suburban at a cost of $120.00 (41 gallon tank) and i'm going to take my family to the woods for some camping and exploring. do you know why i'm going to take them camping? because they weren't killed in that accident, and because i live in a free country that says i can drive a vehicle that can take me places my little 45 mpg volkswagen can't. now i don't condone violence, and i've been known to run from a fight, but just in case, i don't carry one of those little 9mm's, i carry a glock .40 caliber with hollow points so don't get carried away with your honking and gesturing and all. may the lord bless you and keep you.

People in SUVs might be criminals. They might be drug smugglers, ready to shoot everyone in the first vehicle that honks at them. You might be the first one they get.

Anyway, horns are for WARNING, not emotions. By honking as a protest, you would actually be breaking the law.

Some people have SUV's for good reasons. Others have them because they can. The second group is apt to take the honks as a compliment. However, I do agree with what you are saying. They make all of our gasoline prices much higher collectively.

I'm also for dropping the speed limits on the highways. It does save fuel to keep your speed limit no higher than 55. I have stopped using super highways because it is dangerous to go that slowly on them at this time.

Use the Internet but it won't stop people from driving them I drive one. A big huge American SUV that gets 14 mpg, and that would never stop me, just turn up the stereo.

some people need to drive bigger cars

sometimes a larger car is appropriate for it's use - you cant pull a caravan with a smart car

or perhaps you are suggesting that people should have 3 or 4 cars, and select which one is appropriate for whatever use they have that day
