Christians, were you aware of this? Will you protest for an ammendment to the constitution that bans this practice, as you have for legislation against civil unions?

Deuteronomy 24:4:
Then her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife after she is defiled. For that is an abomination before the Lord; and you shall not bring guilt upon the land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance.

This isn't about me, this is a theological question, not a reality based question. I want to know why God says it's an abomination.

Luna, I did read the whole chapter, but Jewish belief is that the Law is ETERNAL, so it has to be more than just preventing disease in pre-industrial Israel. But thanks for trying.

Since it is a Jewish book, and it is a Jewish law (not a non-Jewish law), you should look for the answer from a religious Jew. Please go to http://www.askmoses.com and ask a Rabbi or other religious Jewish scholar there if you want the actual meaning of the verse.
P.S. Why should Christians protest for anything? This law, like the rest of the laws in the JEWISH Torah, never applied to non-Jews except for the 7 Noahide Laws http://www.noahide.org
The Church lies big time when it says that Torah laws applied to non-Jews but that Jesus freed them from it. Can't be freed from something you were never bound by, now can you - nothing there to free you FROM. There were never any punishments nor penalites against non-Jews who didn't live by Torah law, as it never applied to them in the first place. Except the 7 Noahide Laws, of course.

These scriptures refer to remarrying a woman after she has been married to someone else in the time she was divorced from her first husband. Please read the full chapter for reference. In all, a good way to prevent the spread of STDs and avoid paternity issues in a pre-industrial society.
Deuteronomy 24 (Amplified Bible):
"1 WHEN A man takes a wife and marries her, if then she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, and he writes her a bill of divorce, puts it in her hand, and sends her out of his house,
2And when she departs out of his house she goes and marries another man,
3And if the latter husband dislikes her and writes her a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the latter husband dies, who took her as his wife,
4Then her former husband, who sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife after she is defiled. For that is an abomination before the Lord; and you shall not bring guilt upon the land which the Lord your God gives you as an inheritance. "

I was not aware of this - I'll just make sure my wife and I do not divorce.
Thanks for the heads-up!
Edit - If you have something, and decide to get rid of it because you find out it has problems - and while it is gone, it gets worse than when you had it - how foolish would that make you to then take it back?

Says who?
Even if that was under the Law, it no longer applies to Christians. I don't support a Constitutional amendment to prevent gay marriage, so don't "preach" to me, thank you.
Merry Christmas!

Says the bible, Anna P.! Read 1 Timothy!
Of course it also says we should not drink any water, although wine is apparently okay!
1 Timothy 5:23:
"Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach's sake and thine often infirmities."

I don't know about 'abomination' but it sure sounds stupid. If you divorced her once, don't re-think it... stay divorced.
You will thank me later.

personally, I'd be in favor of an amendment that prohibited divorce in general.
