I have a TomTom 720 and for me the deciding factor was for the price the TomTom has more features , widescreen its much better, once you get the 3.5 inch screen in your car it will look so much smaller you'd wish you had bought the 4.3, bluetooth, hand free calling and traffic update including weather from your cell phone , as this may not sound like something you'd be interested in, the one time you look at some POI and you can call them right from the gps screen its worth it, if you are in trouble you can phone the police or tow truck right from the TomTom screen, TomTom uses tele-atlas it more up to date than garmins navteq maps ,oh and TomTom uses mapshare so you can allways have the most up to date maps ,FM transmitter plays you MP3's, audio books and text to speech right over your FM stereo in your car ,
TomTom is the most popular GPS system in the world , in europe they don't call it a GPS they call it a TomTom, I went to my friends house last night and I know he lives in a new sub-division so I typed the address into the TomTom and there it was, the address not to mention the whole east part of that city didn't even show up on his garmin 350, he's going out to buy a TomTom after christmas and try to sell his garmin. Anyway I hope that helps, P.S next time you see a police or ambulance ask them which GPS they use. and then go out and buy youself a TomTom and be happy....Ren Oh I forgot to mention that the option that you require are only available on the TomTom not Garmin and also the garmins have been having allot of problems lately....I'd beware and read some blogs on the net about garbage I mean garmin

Why not just use your car radio for weather info? Other than that I have used the Garmin 330 for two years.

The least expensive good one is Garmin. The 200W (W for wide). It has a anti-glare screen which is important. It slips easily in and out of the rack so that you can whip it up under your nose on short notice in traffic. It can be hidden under the seat or taken from the car when not in use. GPS is a popular theft item.

The more you use GPS the more tricks that you find --- It tells U continuously when you are going to arrive at the selected destination. It gives you actual speed and direction.

If you have typed several destinations into it you can punch up those destinations it will show you seven or eight of them at a time and the distance and direction to those sites. You may then choose the closest, next closest, etc., for efficient travel.

The more expensive units will assemble a route of several destinations for you, closest, next closest, etc.

I drilled two holes in my dashboard top and thus mounted the unit a foot closer to me than the windshield/suction cup way. The suction cup/windshield mount is not legal in my state (California). It will also work (on battery) when simply lying in front of the gas gauge with no mount at all.

You may select "avoid unpaved roads" and other items, from experience. One thing; it automatically re-routes you back to your destination if you get off course. In many cases you are better off just making a U-turn if you are aware thatyou got off course. Also, and very basic: it does NOT tell you where the stop signs are. You still have to use some brain!
