Sometimes nerves misfire for no reason. No damage, no bruise no nothing but the nerve sends signals screaming PAIN to the brain. The idea to first use cold and then hot, to try and stimulate the nerve pathway to the brain to recognize what is hot, what is cold and what is painful. Kinda like retraining the nerve. Good Luck

alternating hot and cold will stimulate blood flow.

increased blood flow will bring nutrients to the site of the compresses and also remove waste material from the tissue.
Nutrients will help facilitate tissue regrowth and repair
