I'll prolly get the 40GB unless someone can convince the 80GB is worth it.

Thanks

YES !!! With That Extra $100 you get twice the hard drive space, memory card readers, PS2 / PSone Compatibility, and 2 more USB Ports.

Of Course... If you Have A PS2 Then Go For The 40GB

not really.. it cant play all of the ps3 games and quite frankly the games that do play a decent amount have problems so i would get the 60gb which is the best choise because it uses the same chip thats in the ps2 so i would either buy a ps2 if you dont have one and a 40gb or buy the HARD to find ps3 60gb... you can only get that used at eb games (which its not likly) or order off the intervet (ebay.com or amazon.com)

This question is an often one, so that's my cut & paste answer:
1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system. It's the latest version. 40GB doesn't support SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc).
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.
Wi-fi included in all models, except 20GB.

I would say get the 80gig.
If you have any PS2 games, you will not be able to play them on the 40gig version. plus, the 80gig makes it much easier to add files like pics, music and movies with it's memory card slots in the front.

Both do connect wirelessly to your network though, and you can use your network to copy files fron your computer to your PS3 if you would like.

The extra space on the 80gig is a must for me. I have a few thousand songs on mine, a lot of pics and I keep my movies on it as well that I just just copy over to my PSP when I'm going on a trip.
I try to use the PS3 for everything it was made to do and that uses up space.

It all depends on your needs. I hope what I've said helps with your decision.

The 60GB is best for backwards compatibilty but it has been discontinued. The 80GB will play about 70% of PS2 and PS1 games. The $399.99 PS3 has no backwards compatibilty whatsoever.
