my upper shoulder gets really achy, and an uncomfortable sensation in the "joint" that connects the right shoulder to the arm. I think it's called the rotor cup - well can I get arthiritis in there or is this something else? There is also a slight aching in the collar bone, the part closest to the shoulder... please help. (i'm 26, female).

Most likely for your age, it is probably tendinitis if you haven't had any recent trauma to it. You could have a rotator cuff tear, but a doctor will probably treat you for tendinitis first. This is the most common and least costly way to start out. Rotator cuff surgery requires a long recovery period, and just sucks. For tendinitis, you'll be instructed on stretching exercises and may be told to take an anti-inflammatory med like Ibuprofen.

While there is always a chance for arthritis, for your age, it is unlikely. It could also be bursitist. This is when the bursa gets inflammed. (The bursa is the cushiony sack between the top part of your arm bone and the underside of the top bone on your shoulder.) ---again, this is not hugely common for someone your age. This is also assuming that you have no other health ailments like diabetes or gout or something else.

If your pain is only when you are moving your arm, then it could be impingement syndrome or the beginning of a frozen shoulder. If it hurts all the time or wakes you up during the night, then you are probably looking at tendinitis or rotator cuff tear.

How did you get the injury in the first place? I have the same problem with my right shoulder, it's either a rotator cuff injury or impingement. I would recommend you see a physcian,I'm making an appointment this Wednesday. In the meantime start taking anti-inflammatory meds such as ibuprofen or naproxen.

Yes, it is possible to have arthritis in the shoulder. The only way to know for sure what is going on is to see your doctor for further evaluation of the situation to see what they think could be going on.

26 isn't too young to suffer from arthritis. I'd suggest going to see your doctor, not a chiropractor
