This is a good question. It all comes down to how you define 'case', and the changing meaning of words.

Traditionally a 'case' was 9 litres of wine -- that is 12 x 75cl bottles, 6 x 150cl magnums or 24 x 37.5cl half-bottles.

6 x 75cl bottles is a half case.

But in the past decade half-cases, i.e. 6 x 75cl bottle packs have become common because of 'health & safety' -- they are half the weight of a case and easier to carry and handle.

And a tremendous number of new merchants, via the internet etc, have entered the business to sell wine.

Probably through ignorance (because I am sure they didn't mean to deliberately mislead customers) they called the increasing common 6 packs 'cases',

So, how many bottles are in a case? You cannot be certain nowadays. You need to check what a merchant means when they advertise a 'case' of wine.

Like when 'varietal' is used when 'variety' is meant, the word case is changing its meaning so that no-one is sure what is meant. Buyer beware.

the supermarkets buy their wines in bulk so they wont just buy a dozen or so cases they buy a few thousand cases and as such they are going to get a far more substantive discount than your Company you may get the wine at 50 p a bottle but they would more than likely get it at about 25 to 30 p a bottle what you need to realise that in some country's' about right it wont be great wine but it will be a glugable wine as for the australian wine these are loss leaders they just attract people to the stores and thy may buy other things so no they do not put the price up on other goods such as food or have you not seen the adverts about clothes etc if you had their buying power would you not do the same thing i know i would
