I forgot, and yes I am so dumb.. But when smoke from them squares seeps through doorways, is it comin' in from the top, bottom, and side? or generally just the top.
I'm wondering how many towels to shove around this door to my apt.

The word "raise" does mean to go up. The reason it goes up is because it is so obnoxious. The lungs are UP, so the smoke goes where it can do the most damage.

The best solution to get rid of smoke from the morons below who still smoke is to move. Sorry, but cigarette smoke is designed to find those who can least stand it.

I think you would have good grounds to break your lease. And if you can find enough like you, you may even get your facility to be a 'no smoking' building.

It is worth a try.

Don't forget to wet the towels, and of course an exhaust fan to catch any errant particles. Just to play it safe, a surplus SCAPE suit from the USAF might come in handy. Best have the gas and electric turned off as the air pack contains a 21% o2 mix. If you think cigarettes cause cancer, you probably think oxigen burns. Now, about going out.....

Smoke is naturally heavier than air and, in a still environment it will fall.
The initial heat from the cigarette causes it to rise at first and, due to currents of air (even small ones), it will permeate (diffuse) through the air and pass through any small cracks and crevices, doors and vent systems in the building.

(As oxygen doesn't burn, I don't know where that comes into it).

When the smoke is first expelled, it should be slightly warmer than the room and tend to raise. But it will quickly become the same temperature as the room and then dissipate evenly.

To answer your question, you will need to completely seal your door all the way around.

Smoke is a form of gas. Therefore, gas is a randomly movable particles. So it moves all over the places according to the diffusion theory which is from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower concentration. Besides, it also depends on the direction of the wind flows.
