Newer Bluray machines have live picture in picture mode. Check your owners manual and see if you have the main pix and the pip pix switched.

Or simply, read and understand the pip section of your owners manual and you'll likely find your answer. :)

It seems as though you have the special features enabled. Some BDs have special features that you can access while viewing the movie, and they usually display like that. Go into the disc menu and be sure they are turned off.

While you're at it, have you updated the firmware for your Blu-Ray player? Even if it was brand new out of the box, there are still updates that need to be made. Here's what you do:

You will need a computer that can burn DVDs (regular ones... not Blu-Ray, thankfully!)

Go to -
http://www.sony.com/blurayupdate

Select your country, series, and model player.

Download the appropriate firmware update.

Extract it and burn the ISO to a disc using the burning software that came with your burner (you may have to go into the advanced section to get the "Burn ISO" or "Burn Disc Image" option.

Pop the disc into your Blu-Ray player and let it update. DO NOT REMOVE THE DISC UNTIL IT IS COMPLETED!!! It may pop out a few times, but the Sony site will tell you what the display must read for it to be done updating.

You're done!

Remember, your Blu-Ray player runs on Java, and it must be updated frequently. Check that site often for the latest software.

Happy watching!
