That means all forms of religion. That means no Christmas, Yuletide, or any other thing religious or spiritual in nature.

Helper:
Good point. I read the Lord of the Flies, several times. Thumbs up.

I believe that there will be laws on top of laws. So many that It would be impossible not to violate a law, even when you are honestly trying to follow the law.

John Lennon though we would have society full of peace and "nothing to fight for".

But in reality, you should read "The Lord of the Flies" for an alternate view.

Good Luck

Depends what it is replaced with.

If it was replaced with rational thought and practice, the world would be MUCH better. War would cease and our focus on science and education would create incredible advances for human kind.

If it was replaced with another false theory, like the inherent evil of mankind, positioned by Marx, we would have much the same results as religion gives us today.

Helper - Lord of the Flies teaches us that mob mentality enhanced by faith based belief causes violence and war. Without the monster driving the boys on, they might have had a chance to live more reasonably. The monster is religion.

I don't need an afterlife to behave in a moral way. People who believe that eternal life is all that people behave well for are morally corrupt.

No big difference. People will always find ways to be crappy to one another and enforce their own agenda. That's life. Although, at least politicians will have one less tool to rile up the masses...

EDIT: Blessed: What do you mean by 'moral standards'. You mean the standards that commands disobedient children be stoned to death? The sanctioning of slavery? Abolishing slavery directly conflicts with the bible. From where did we learn that slavery was wrong, as it clearly was not from religion...? Ourselves perhaps...?

EDIT: SARswimmer95: So, according to you, people need religion to behave? You are aware that this is not morality but simply obeying rules? Basically, what you are saying is that the only thing that prevents you from immoral behavior is the threat of eternal punishment and the vain desire for reward. Like I said, that's not morality, that's blind obedience and fear. Your emotional intelligence level is the equivalent of a five year old child. Put simply, you think like this: "Whats in it for me/How can I avoid punishment?" Most children move beyond this stage by the time they turn ten. Evidently, you are either ten, or you are an emotionally and morally retarded adult.

The state would become the religion and we would be set back 500 years. So long as we can keep states and religions fighting each other then we can live relatively free. If any of them get too strong we end up living under dictatorships.
Religious dictatorships and political dictatorships are both very dangerous.

Christmas wouldn't be affected since it's not a religious holiday.

People would learn to take care of themselves, make their own decisions based on common sense, and actually have a decent form of morality instead of relying on some archaic book for it.

Things would be a bit tough at first, but in the long run - humanity would be much better off.

"Well, for one thing, we wouldn't have good educational systems or moral standards or even the concept of justice... all these are a produce to religious influence."

So, so wrong.

This type of ignorance would die out.

Religion and politics are the two biggest problems that this world has ever seen and the only other thing that could take civilization down is if the world ran out of energy.

People would reinvent it anyways. Humans will always have an obsession with symbols and dogma. It's how we best express certain ideas we can't put into words.

Though the lull period would sure clear up things in the Middle East.

We would still find things to kill each other about.

Oil. Leadership disagreements. Diplomacy.

It is natural human behaviour, Religion is just a product of that... an excuse...

CHAOS! No more morals. No chance of purgatory, because that means Hell is null and void, too!

In my opinion, with out religion, that eliminates the reason to "be good, or you'll go straight to Hell." I don't think the human race would be able to survive the next 200 years on that!
