Why yes! Lol a toy? Boy do people have so much to learn about air rifles.
See people its not what propels the slug, bullet, pellet, rock, or brick. Its all about a. how heavy, b. how fast, and d. amount of energy on impact.
Air guns have been around long before the USA. In fact Napoleon had his solders killed by air rifle snipers and Lewis and Clark used air rifles to kill game and save on gunpowder.
Why for the love of Pete people think that if gunpowder is not the propellant it’s a toy!!!????
It’s the objects energy that kills.
If you could throw a pebble at 600 ft per second it would be a lethal projectile.
Thats a fine weapon! And its already set up for scope just like some other rifles are with out iron sights. Nice, I have checked it out before, me want!

Well I have to agree, this is certainly NOT a toy! You can't argue with those numbers,
a high of 613 f.p.s. and a low of 581 f.p.s. delivering 192.63 foot-pounds to 190.86 foot-pounds. And that was with 250gr pellets!
That's the cowboy load for 45 Colt, 250 grains. Of course it's travelling about 300fps faster , but still, that's a stout bullet, and the energy it delivers from this pellet rifle is enough to kill any small game, if you're close enough to it.
I'm guilty of calling most air rifles toys, I guess because I learned to shoot with an airgun, and graduated to firearms. This air rifle you have listed is as close to a firearm as I've ever seen in an airgun, So not all air rifles are toys, but you have to admit, a lot are!

That’s a nice gun and yes it would be fine for hunting the right game at the right distance.
I like the .308 air rifle also.
http://www.quackenbushairguns.com/308_exile.html
Lots Of info there Thanks evo741hp!
I have a cousin with a air rifle that was .308 very similar to the one in the link, last summer in the lower 48 I shot it.
All I can describe it as was like shooting a light cowboy action match round in 30/30 with out the same sound. It was loud! But different. And recoil was much like shooting a black powder .30 cal Kentucky squirrel rifle. Ya know that slower recoil? Its smoother than the piston air gun.
I wouldn’t hesitate to kill a deer under 50 yards with it.
Read the numbers in that article. The one I shot was less powerful so I can just imagine what this thing would be like. Never shot the .50 but hope to one day.
There are little Red Rider BB guns then there are the Air GUNS!
Glad to see we have some who know about air guns. Right on! :)

A Dragon Slayer is a great rifle for hunting. What are you planning to hunt ?
These PCP rifles aren't your ordinary air guns. They put out a lot of power, and yes, they're NOT TOYS. This is just an example of what these PCP rifles can do.
http://www.americanairgunhunter.com/airgun_hunter.html
These are all AIR GUNS. If you do decide to buy it, be careful. There are also things you will learn about PCP's. Like, how much to fill, leaking problems that are common with these guns, and that you just can't shoot them in your back yard. They are LOUD.

It's no toy, but why would one throw down $600+ (FORCED to buy a scope for it, no open irons) on an airgun when you can buy a slightly used cartridge rifle that has like 3 times the range for the same amount, if not less?

Hunting what?
225 Gr. pellets @ ~600 FPS is about the
ballistics of an old black powder .45 pistol.
For the price, you can buy a decent center
fire rifle.

that gun is a beast, but why did you spend 500$ for it? squirrels, rabbits, crows, groundhogs, skunks, racoons and opossums. coyotes may be possible, just remember shot placement, i mean come on this gun killed a wild boar with one shot. that is a very powerful gun, and i would use a hunting weight pellet instead of a PBA Raptor your probobly using, i would use a JSB Predator, Crow Magnum or some kind of Superdome. with that gun the heaviest pellet i would use is a kodiak 10.65 grain pellet, and the lightest being a 6.6 grain Rocket pellet. both excellent pellets.

It would be good for close range hunting. There are others I like better that are .45 cal.
And yes air rifles and air guns are weapons, anything that can kill is a weapon.

If you want to use a air rifle to take large game get one from this guy.
The one you are looking at will cost you the same as one from quakenbush, but the quakenbush will shoot larger slugs at a higher velocity
