This is what the verse says: work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Do you feel you have to work out your own salvation? This is a false teaching. Have you ever read the next verse to this?
for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. (Philippians 2:13)

not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:5-7)

Crazy Pirate: This is a sin that leads to death. If you believe you can earn you own salvation you have no salvation. I do not judge. The word of God judges us.

This is an old and recycled argument for faith alone-proponents.

Titus 3: 5 means that we can not do anything on our own not even our own works of righteousness in order to be saved from sure judgment of God. Only the shedding of the blood of Christ saving process is done. This is a grace of God.

But this is extremely interpreted by many as having faith alone without doing works which is actually obedience to the commandments of God. Verse 8 says

This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain GOOD WORKS. These things are good and profitable unto men. (emphasis mine)

To say that membership to a church doesnt help in attaining salvation is very unbiblical. Christ taught about a flock and a shepherd pertaining to the church he built. Also, all letters of apostle Paul give numerous justification how a church organizes things.

The Gospels are very clear about the need to follow Jesus in order to be saved. This, by definition, implies our righteous acts as necessary to qualify for salvation. True it is that salvation comes only through Jesus, but He can't save us unless we repent. Repentance is a life-long process not just a one time occurrence. We are saved by the Grace of Christ because He did for us what we can't do for ourselves, that is remit sin. Only He can absolve us of our sins. But, he doesn't save us in our sins, He saves us from our sins. God is a perfect being and cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance. In order to live with Him we have to be cleansed from sin. This cleansing is made possible through the atonement of Christ and can only take place if we exercise repentance. So, it is true that we must work out our salvation through repentance and placing our faith in the Savior. Righteous acts alone won't save us; they must be coupled with a faith in Christ.

I have a personal relationship with Jesus and that is the way to salvation, as long as we repent and get saved, take Jesus into our Hearts.
Only through him to get to God. Jesus died for our sins and for that, I am very grateful. As long as we follow him and repent, we will have our salvation. Believeth in the Word of God.

God Bless

We are saved by grace, I think Philippians 2: 12 is saying don't go back to your old ways after you have accepted Jesus as Lord.

How Can I Know If God Has Saved Me?

This question gets to the essence of what life is all about. God tells us everything we need to know with regard to His salvation plan for mankind in His Book, the Bible, and God explains that assurance of our salvation is indeed possible: 1 John 5:11-13 “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

We must realize that God does ALL the work of salvation. The Bible teaches that we cannot save ourselves. No church, no religious ritual, no person, and no human effort can save us. Only the work done by the Lord Jesus Christ at the cross and by the Holy Spirit in our hearts can save us. Believing, or having “faith”, in the Lord Jesus Christ is the result of salvation – not the cause of it.

If God has already saved you from eternal damnation, He has put His Spirit within you and resurrected your soul (that is, you became a new creature in Christ); and your spiritual war with God has ended, as God stated in the following verses: Ezekiel 36:26-27 “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.” 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Romans 5:10 “For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”

In other words: If God has saved you from Hell, the Lord Jesus Christ paid for ALL of your sins with His life so that you now have eternal life, and you made no contribution to your salvation in any way: Titus 3:4-7 “But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”

However, if God does not save you before you die or the Lord Jesus Christ returns in judgment, you will spend eternity in Hell under the wrath of God paying for your own sins. In these two verses, God commands us to evaluate our spiritual condition to determine if we truly have received the gift of eternal life based on what the Bible teaches about salvation: 2 Corinthians 13:5 “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” 2 Peter 1:10 “Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:”
