I like to leave the lip up so all you have to do is pull out the grate to take things in and out of the oven, my family is fighting me on this saying that it must face down. I downloaded pics that show the lip up but they want normal everyday people to tell me...so, which way do your grates face - up or down?

First the grate goes in the oven with the lip up and into the over first...so the lip is in the back of the oven and is up. The reason for this is if you look at the inside wall of oven you will see a sort of bump on the side slide. It suppose to stop the grate from being pulled all the way out of the oven on to floor when you have a hot 25 lb turkey on it. Notice that you have to put the rack in by picking the front higher. Hey if it fits another way and you are careful ..go for it...Merry Christmas

In my oven, the lip is placed up at the back of the oven. It prevents the baking dishes from sliding off of the rack when you move the rack to the front of the oven to easily remove the hot dishes. It's bad to reach into a hot oven and the racks were made to move for that reason.

in my oven the lip of the rack goes up in the front. i do this so when i take something out of the oven and it is hot it won't fall out and burn me. if the lip is up in the front i can control how far the cold dish goes in easier than having the hot dish fall out if i don't have a really good grip on it.
