For 200 dollars your not going to be able to buy a new rifle. With $200.00 you will be able to buy a used rifle, which I would suggest inspecting over before you buy.
As most have been saying military rifles are what your going to be able to purchase.
You can go with the .303 lee endfield, but I would go with the 8mm Mauser. They are of good quality. If you find one that was predated 1942 you'll have a higher quality rifle vs one that was dated 1944 just because in 1944 rifle making was a little more sloppy due to the war. Not saying that 1944 mausers are bad, it just one that predate 1942 will be of higher quality.
The 8mm mauser will do the trick and that is what I would go with.
But those are just military rifles. You might get lucky and find a used rifle of a different calibre or make or model.
What you need to find is one that you enjoy shooting, see if you like bolt action, or lever or pump first before you look. If you don't like bolt action rifles then all the military ones previously discussed are thrown out the window.
Then you need to decide what calibre you want and where you will be shooting. a .243 is a fine calibre for deer hunting it gets the job done but I'd rather not use it in thick bush. ON the other hand a .30-30 is a great bush gun and will take a deer down no problem, I've seen several hunters using a .30-30 lever action.
It boils down to what you want to shoot and what you can find in your price range. I'd suggest raising the price range to atleast 500 dollars if possible as you'll eventually wnat to put some accesories on it as well..
I hope this has helped

There are few new guns in that price range and they are break open single shot rifles. Your best ooption may be a military surplus rifle. If you have good eyesight then there are a host of ex-military Mausers, Mosin Nagants and Enfields out there. If your eyesight is less than perfect then you would want one with a receiver peep sight and the only one in that price range would be a No4 Mk1 Lee Enfield in 303 British. Enfields like any other rifle has their share of quirks but even one with a worn bore can still shoot the 180 grain hunting load reasonably accurately.

Unless you catch H& R Handi-Rifles on sale, the only way you will find a good hunting rifle for $200.00 or less will be on the used gun market.
You might find most anything in your price range, gun traders can be funny that way. But you most likely bet for a $200.00 or under quality hunting rifle would be a Marlin M-336 in .30-30 WCRF.

I would recommend the Savage 30.06. I have used mine for several years and can not thing of a better all around gun for hunting. The 30.06 is small enough to use on deer and varmits but big enough to use as a last resort weapon when moose hunting.

if you are deer hunting in the east where ranges tend to be short, you could get a 12.ga. shotgun such as a Mossberg 500, with a slug barrel, and tell everyone its a .73-caliber pump-action musket.

You could get pretty much any mil-surp rifle for that much. Those would include enfields(303 or 308), mausers(8mm), Mosin Nagants(7.62X54r). Those are all capable hunting guns. There are other guns that you could find in that range, but they would probably have to be used. If you are looking at new guns for medium sized game, your choices are fewer.

About the only thing you are going to find in that price range is the H&R Handy Rifles. and the Mossberg 4x4.
As for caliber what are you hunting? deer, small game, elk, what.

GET AN SKS!!!!
they are usually around $150 - $250
most are around $200
SKSs are really great hunting weapon, and can be used as a combat weapon "just in case"
They take 7.62X39 FMJ round ammunition
and are semi auto
my uncle let me borrow his for a few years and they kick ***.
they are accurate up to as far as you can see.
if you want something more accurate "like to mount a scope"
then get some sort of bolt action rifle.
Mousers "8mm" are a great deal, but they might be a little bit more than $200.
