You are right, it's just a matter of geography. The Santa thing originated in the northern hemisphere so no one considered the possibility of a South Pole Santa.

Because the north pole is physically closer to more people. The population is higher in the northern hemisphere, so he has less distance to cover in performing his night time run, which is ever more critical as the population is growing.

well he used to live in Antarctica, but he was evicted by his landlord after the elves started to play fiendish tricks on the neighbors. i guess they didn't like the burning elf poo on their porches. oh well.
