How long will he remain in this coma, what is "normal"? Will he have all his brain fuctions back? Will there be any side effects or disabiltys to his body or mind? How much weight/ muscle will he lose? Will he recall any or all moments of being "asleep" and me and his friends being near?

There is no way of knowing. When I worked intensive care, we had people in comas from time to time. Some came out of it in a few days. Some never did.

There are reports of people coming out of even prolonged comas and remembering some of the things that were said to them. That is why it is considered wrong to talk about negative things at the bedside.

If you are able to visit your friend, talk to him about anything - stuff you did together and may do again, music, hobbies, what you have been doing, etc. You may feel strange because he does not answer, but do it anyway. If you are religious, pray with him.

Even if he dies (and we have no way of knowing now), you may be bringing him comfort in his last days.

May you, your friend and his family feel the comforting hand of God.

it depends on the type of seizure. my dad has grandmal seizures and he would be out for 24-48 hours. he would remeber bits and pieces of what happened to him when he had the seizure and not much after. as for side effects my dad was a little dopy afterwards for a bit. and not realy all there. but he came back to himself with in a day or so.

dont be discuraged even if he dosnt remember you there im sure sub concieniously he does

It sounds like your friend is in status-epilepticus.
The brain damage can not be determined until he wakes up.
During the seizure if he was with out O2, that can kill brain cells. That is all I can answer.
