Wouldn't he be disgusted by the commercial feeding-frenzy perpetrated in his name.
My perception of him is as an anti-materialist (rich men and eyes of needles etc.)
As an atheist I do admire him and am sure he'd puke if he ever would come back. (There's as much chance of that as the US taking the lead in Green Economics, Mr. Bush)

Hey I'm an atheist, I've looked into various religions etc. I am fully aware about christian holidays replacing the seasonal pagan ones. All answers after this who harp on about Saturnalia, Yule or anything else get a thumbs down!

"jadore7 " makes me laugh, no not really.
1914 was the beginning of a truly meaningless slaughter between the European Imperialist powers.
So she thinks that because the Brits and Germans played a game of football on that day it proves something? Where's your head?
It didn't stop the war.
Jesus was a rebel and challenged people to think. No-one who thought would have joined that pointless gore-fest.
As usual "jadore7", the chicken, permits no direct email so I have to post it here.
I bet she's a christian!

Yup. He sure would be disgusted and wish to disassociate himself. When he lived on earth he showed compassion for the lost, the lonely, the dispossesed, the poor and the infirm. Not a lot of that going around in his name these days.
However, apart from the fact he wasn't born on 25 December, it was his life and his death that has meaning. Now if he just died and stayed dead then that would make him no more or less than a good guy. I actually met up with him 11 years ago. He's still around. And, no, I'm not delusional or taking mind bending drugs. I don't even have a certificate to prove my sanity. But I will raise a glass of good, red wine to you and everyone else this Christmas eve and wish you peace and good will.
P.S. Re answer above on Revelation 2:6. Nicolaitans were a heretical sect within the (Christian) church that had worked out a compromise with the pagan society. They taught that spiritual liberty gave them sufficient leeway to practise idolatry and immorality. Tradition identifies them with Nicolas, the proselyte of Antioch who was one of the first 7 deacons in the Jerusalem church although the evidence is circumstantial. A similar group at Pergamum held to the teaching of Balaam and some at Thyatira were followers of the woman Jezebel. From their heretical tendencies it would appear that all 3 groups were Nicolaitans.

Now we have learned from the Bible that the Rapture of the true believers of Jesus Christ will occur on May 21, 2011 AD, which will be five months before the end of the world on October 21, 2011 AD
"And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man." (Revelation 9:5)
The Bible is a Book that is absolutely true and trustworthy. It is the centerpiece, the keystone of this study.

If Jesus came back at Christmas, that would fit in amazingly well with his warning that he would return at a time when people would not expect him to return. It would be like a thief coming in the night - totally unexpected.
I once spoke to the children in church about that very idea. "What would be the least likely time for Jesus to return?" I asked. "When the world was getting legless and swamped in debt supposedly celebrating his birth as a helpless baby" was the answer. Which lends new anticipation to the forthcoming celebrations...

Well, to be matter of fact, if Jesus came back at Christmas it would be time for the Judgment and what you were doing would be a moot point. It is your whole life he will be Judging and all will be sorted out on that day.
Now, for the intent of your question, yes I am sure Jesus would be appalled at everything that was and is done in his name. He would also be happy with those that use this time to give gifts and share with one another in communion. Jesus loved giving and mentioned it several times and is the giver of the greatest gift. He would also go to each that had given him a pure and contrite heart and thank them for their gift.

He says himself in the book of Revelation that he hates Christmas:
Revelation 2:6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitanes (followers of St. Nicholas - Santa ni-Claus), which I also hate.
2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.

I think that the commercial feeding frenzy perpetrated in His name would not surprise him with everything else happening in the world.

If he opened his mouth, he would be in Guantanimo being waterboarded before he could get a second statement out.
If he COULD "come back."
I have a hard time believing in re-animating long-decayed corpses, and there is some historical doubt any such person ever lived in the first place.
EDIT
Aw crud. "Me" beat me to it.

I think most sensible people separate the two versions of Christmas - one spiritual and the other commercial - it doesn't have to be either or, it can be both enjoyed concurrently.
