Do you believe that satanism is seen as a belief just as those who believe in god. Is it possible that people who follow Lord Lucifer can have true connection with Him, without being stereotyped as animal/baby/children killers as the media and other sources would have society believe?

Damn straight it's a genuine belief. Ritual Human Sacrifice isn't even a Satanist Concept. I don't have the time right now to type out the full entent of the Xian Bible quotes where the concept of Human Sacrifce was created, but if you don't believe me, just Google "Deuteronomy 12:27", you'll get the idea. The reason it's been associated with Satanism is, Devil Worship and Satanism have been used as interchangeable terminology by Xianity for Aeons (it's getting really obnoxious too.) In truth, "The Devil" is a Xain invention of a Halloween Monster that they gave some of the same names as His Infernal Majesty to scare people away from the Left Hand Path. Fear and Guilt are thier weapons, but once you can see past them, life becomes SO much clearer (easier and happier too). Back to the differences between Satanism and Devil Worship though: Devil Worshippers actually believe that Satan is one in the same with The Devil, because as much as they like to act Anti-Xian, they have a very Xian paradigm of the world, and believe they're screwing God over by ritually slaughtering living beings, calling it "Sacrifice", because they got the idea that's what Devil-Worshippers do from spending one too many days in Sunday Sermon. In ACTUAL Satanism, the principle deity (Father Satan, of course) does NOT encourage killing in His name, not even just to piss off God or make his followers quake in their boots.

So the truth is, YES, we are a legitimate, strong and spiritually intelligent people who have NOTHING in our code of ethics which encourages us to harm anyone who has not first harmed us or someone we love. In fact, three of the seven details to our code deal in how we should NOT hurt people who have done nothing to deserve it.

Take me for example. I'm as Satanist as the millennium is long, but just about anyone you'll ever meet who's interacted with me will tell you I stand on steady moral ground, have a strong sense of right and wrong, and am good (or at least decent), to anyone who treats me and my loved ones well. I'm in love with a beautiful, sweet woman who I hope to spend at least a VERY long time with, and you can damn well bet your bottom dollar I'll always treat her like a Goddess as long as she's good to me too, because that bet would likely make you a millionaire. Such practices and beliefs are my idea of what makes one a Satanist, a True Man, and a Legitimate Human Being. I hope that answers your question.

As a side note, I've never seen such a bad case of denial as that "Football rocks SO hard!!!!!!!" guy as he screamed like a three year old, "I hate Satanism, it's not true!!!!!!". Anyone who needs that many exclaimation marks to amplify thier point clearly doesn't have an argument worth making in the first place. I didn't see any proof of his claim in that post. He seems to believe Y! Answers is just another place to throw temper tantrums like a child when you don't agree with what someone else believes.

Oh and also, that "Geezah" guy with the ludicrous little devil-duck for a display image could probably benefit from a little more research. He seems to believe that LaVey Satanism is the ONLY kind of Satanism out there, which would be like saying that Catholicism is the only kind of Xianity in the world. Such is a statement that one would make if they were ignorant, either willfully or unknowingly. LaVey Satanism is Atheistic Satanism, which deals in practices more than worship. However, there IS a such thing as a Theistic Satanist, and no, Geezah, we're NOT Devil-Worshippers. Try answering with the facts instead of just your own blasphemous musings. It's the only way we can ever get real answers to the questions which we have, don't you agree? Yes, this question was about our individual beliefs, but you still just pigeonholed a whole group of people who have done nothing offensive to you, and that you obviousely know nothing about. Think on it, because no matter what kind of Satanist you are, your peers on the occult religion scene will still expect you to be good at that.

Ave Satanas!

There's a reason society believes those things:

Anton LaVey is supposedly one of the "normal" Satanists. Here's some of the things he prescribed:

LaVey claimed that nuts were given "the bum's rush" when trying to join the Church of Satan, but clearly nut was in the eye of the beholder. LaVey has admited to holding a "Cannibal feast" of a human leg in at least 3 books. The Satanic Bible &Satanic Rituals certainly describe many things most normal people would consider pychotic such as Nude girl is used as an altar (Satanic Bible, Satanic Rituals)A human skull is used in Die Elektrischen Vorspiele ritual (Satanic Rituals, p. 109)Human leg bone or arm bone is used in Homage to Tchort ritual (p.137)
Woman dressed as nun urinates before group into a bedpan in the Black Mass ritual (p.43) Urine is then sprinkled like holy water (p.44)Man climbs into coffin with nude woman (or nude man if he is gay) in Le Epais ritual (p.59).

While LaVey claimed he never practiced anything illegal, he actually pimped out female followers and beat them when they didn't bring in enough money which he called "Satanic Sex Therapy". According to defector P.E.I. Bonewitz, LaVey blackmailed members too. His common law wife Diane left him in the late 80's after being physically abused for over 20 years. Daughter Zeena claimed Anton was the passive witness to his own grandson's molestation.

Obviously these are things normal people don't do.

According to psychologist Anthony Moriarty adolescent Satanists (and probably adults too) can generally be classified into four categories, 1. Psuedo Intellectuals 2. Psychotics, 3. Angry 4. Suicidal. No normal people.

LaVey died bankrupt in a broken down house he no longer owned, despite claiming to be able to use magic for "selfish reasons".

People will tell you malarky about Satanism being "worship of the self", it's not. It's a personality cult centered around LaVey. People who get involved in Satanism are desperate for power, which indicates a deeper underlying problem.

If you want people to take you seriously in life, don't be a Satanist, because they won't.

Satanism itself is a belief system more than I would consider it a religion. To be honest, it should have been called 'selfism'. There is a large difference between Satanism and Devil worship. Media and other sources will always convey most religions in a dark light, though the Satanists most likely wouldn't care too much about that anyway, if they followed strictly enough.

Satanism is a non-theistic religion, where Satan is taken as a symbol only, namely as an archetype representing human's carnal nature. "People who follow Lord Lucifer" are devil-worshipers bent on inverting Christianity, not Satanists.

The first time in recorded history a group of people identified themselves as "Satanists" was in the 1960s with the establishment of the Church of Satan by Anton Szandor LaVey, author of "The Satanic Bible". Granted you had wild scare stories from christian churches about the works of devil worshipers, and aristocrats who indulged in a "black mass" for entertainment reasons, but no actual group identified as "Satanists". So, they got dibs on the name.

So now that I've cleared that up...Satanism is not a belief like (to use your example) theism is, which is only a belief and not an actual religion. But Satanism is a full religion that stands on its own, complete with not only ceremony but a philosophy that can be applied to daily life (another thing which largely separates itself from the works of devil worshipers).

Anything can be a belief. Are you trying to ask whether or not Satanism is a religion? If so, then the answer is yes. It is about worship. Worship of Satan OR worship of self.

Can they have a connection to Satan? NO. Satan doesn't exist. It's primarily Christians who believe that Satan exists and that it is possible to have a relationship with Satan.

The United States Navy once gave a Satanist navy servicman a Satanic burial at sea because "Satanism" was his religion. Honest.

If one believes the Bible, then one has to believe in Satan. Satan is mentoned in the Bible by no less than Jesus himself. And yes, some people do worship Satan.
For Christians we recall "greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world."
1 John 4:4
SOME people take Satanism only figuratively, but others are quite literal. See reference below.

As long as it's kept lawful, I don't see why you cannot call it your religion, and have the freedom to practice it, afforded by the U.S. Constitution. (That is, if you're in the U.S. You didn't mention that. I'm just assuming.)
