I believe the stats show that only 5% of the American population gets offended by "Merry Christmas". The other 95% couldn't care less. However, 35% of the other 95% (which would be about 33.3% of the American population) get offended when you say something OTHER than "Merry Christmas" in effort to be politically correct. And furthermore, those same 35% will turn around and walk right out of the store, and never return to shop there again. So, stores who cater to the 5% by being politically correct, are actually hurting their sales more, because they are offending close to 34% in doing so. I think stores are beginning to wise up, though. I haven't heard anything but "Merry Christmas" this year.

I have yet to meet a person offended by Merry Christmas. I'm not, and I'm not Christian either. :) Merry Christmas!

It shouldn't be offending to people. Christmas is the one Holiday of the year that America has decided to blow up and make a huge money maker. Our family has friends that celebrate Hanukkah, and they dont care at all. They know that most people celebrate Christmas and they are OK with that.

It doesn't offend me, and I wish you a Merry Christmas to you, your family and everyone in this forum.

You have it backwards. Some people take offense when a seasonal greeting OTHER THAN "Merry Christmas" is offered. As if "Happy Holidays" were a slap in the face or something. Screw them.

It shouldn't offend any one. Well wishes are simply that, and should not be taken as an attack. People shouldn't be so sensitive. I wouldn't be offended by someone wishing me a happy Boxing Day...and yet I don't celebrate it.

It doesn't offend me. I just turn around and wish them Happy Holidays or a Merry Solstice.
Funny thing is, they usually get bent out of shape when I say that.

Why does saying Happy Hannukah offend you?
