roast it at 325°F (160°C). Figure on 25 to 30 minutes per pound for rare, 28 to 33for medium rare, 31 to 36 minutes for medium, and as long as you want for well done.
To be sure — and we suggest everyone should get an instant-read thermometer — cook it until the internal temperature is 120° to 125° for rare, 130° to 140° for medium rare, 145° to 150° for medium, and 155° to 165° for well done.

I agree with Ed. I would roast it to a nice medium rare at most. I used to try to roast meat according to weight. Once I used the internal temperature rather than the weight to gauge how long to cook a roast of any kind, I never had another piece of meat under or over done.

This is a link to a chart that will tell you what the internal temperature should be for a piece of meat to reach the desired doneness.
Remember, however, to remove the roast from the oven about when it reaches five degrees lower than the desired temperature. It will continue you to cook. Tent it with a piece of aluminum foil and allow it to rest for about 10 to 15 minutes before carving it. This way the juices will reabsorb, so to speak, and you won't lose all of them on the cutting board.
Good luck.

I would recommend you roast your rump roast in a Reynolds cooking bag. Put a table spoon of flour in the bag and shake it around so it coats the bag. Place the roast in the bag, then add pared carrots, potatoes that are quartered. Any seasonings you want to have I like to put garlic cloves into the meat through little slits. And I like to slice onions into it too. I've even put whole mushrooms in. Also add 1/4 cup of water or beef broth. close the bag with the provided ties. Put a couple tiny slits at the top of the bag to keep it from exploding.
The package of cooking bags should have the times. The bag will keep your roast from drying out.... it will be nice moist, I like to cook my roasts until they are just about ready to fall apart.
Your roast should be cooked 325 degrees. for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
I have never had a bad experience using the bags...
