You might want to get an independent non biased (either way) view from secular scholars that study religions in general.... any of those that you listed could be uninformed, misinformed, totally ignorant, or severely biased.... Actually it would be best to get several insights from several different sources....

My heart....
I believe true Islam is what comes from God direct through a softened heart....by God...insha'Allah.

Of course you need the fundamentals of the deen (way) from scholars, books, websites and interaction with learned ones of course..But what is inspired through the heart when seeking inner purification and betterment is nourishment that insha'Allah leads to better understanding of what Islam is all about. This can only come about through humility, and acts of kindness to all living beings.

Mostly depend on the Internet for scholarly learning..

We all have a steep hill to climb no matter how far we think we have walked this path. We need to help each other as much as we can.

Salaam.

A human must acquire an understanding of Islam from a "Man of Wisdom".
In these times such a man is difficult to find.
Generally a "Man of Wisdom", will find the student.

A human heart must be open and in a receptive state.
Only when the heart is open will the Qur'an be able to penetrate and establish True Peace within man.

"Peace be always with you."

The Qur'an:

Shakir 2:6 Surely those who disbelieve, it being alike to them whether you warn them, or do not warn them, will not believe.
Shakir 2:7 Allah has set a seal upon their hearts and upon their hearing and there is a covering over their eyes, and there is a great punishment for them.
Shakir 2:8 And there are some people who say: We believe in Allah and the last day; and they are not at all believers.
Shakir 2:9 They desire to deceive Allah and those who believe, and they deceive only themselves and they do not perceive.
Shakir 2:10 There is a disease in their hearts, so Allah added to their disease and they shall have a painful chastisement because they
Shakir 2:11 And when it is said to them, Do not make mischief in the land, they say: We are but peace-makers.
Shakir 2:12 Now surely they themselves are the mischief makers, but they do not perceive.
Shakir 2:13 And when it is said to them: Believe as the people believe they say: Shall we believe as the fools believe? Now surely they themselves are the fools, but they do not know.

(If one doesn't believe in Allah, according to the Koran, one has a disease, is mocking Islam and deserves a great punishment).

Shakir 2:109 Many of the followers of the Book wish that they could turn you back into unbelievers after your faith, out of envy from themselves, (even) after the truth has become manifest to them; but pardon and forgive, so that Allah should bring about His command; surely Allah has power over all things.

منسوخة-Abrogated
This verse is abrogated (its authority has been abolished) by the following verse:
AT-TAWBA 5
So when the sacred months have passed away, then slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush, then if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, leave their way free to them; surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
AT-TAWBA 29
Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Messenger have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.

(So because someone doesn't believe, he must be trying to convince a follower to leave Islam through deceit. If necessary, arms and war should be taken up to force people to convert to the faith. They must pay a tax and acknowledge the superiority of Islam and its followers and then live in a state of submission).
