My mom has RA among a few other things and her feet hurt a lot and swell. It hurts a lot to walk barefoot a big part of the time and we're having a hard time finding some real soft houseshoes. We live in a very small town so not many stores. Can someone suggest somewhere online I can order some really soft cushy houseshoes or maybe some stores that would be at the malls in the couple of towns a little ways away???

That was kind of what I was looking for. Something with a cushy inside really. I guess I didn't word that very well lol. But something that will be soft of the inside for her feet and then supportive to wear around the house. I live in a small town in NE Oklahoma...redneck ville to say the least lol. About 75 miles from Tulsa. And I have already tried wal-mart...all of their houseshoes that are for adults are like strapping freakin 2x4's to your feet. Hard as rock. lol

We can't help you find appropriate stores,
because you didn't tell us what town or city you live in! You can find online stores by typing "online shoe stores" (without the quotes) into your favorite search engine.

Regardless, this may not sound logical, but soft shoes usually cause more pain than you'd think! Ballerinas have some of the softest shoes on the planet, but I guarantee you, they go to bed in great pain (have you ever seen a professional dancer's foot? not a pretty sight!). Think of it like this: If you walked around in your bare feet on any surface, wouldn't you feel every lump, bump, stone, blade of grass, crack in the cement, etc, etc, etc? Now try it with hard shoes on. You don't feel as much, do you?

Instead, look for a firm shoe with a soft, cushiony, inner lining, or just buy your mom cushioned insoles that can slip inside her shoes.

As for her "Rheumatoid Arthritis", only a doctor can help; maybe she can be fitted with orthotics, though my friends tell me that they don't offer the kind of relief your mom may need.

P.S. It's very sweet of you to be so concerned about your mom! I hope you get everything you want this holiday season!
