I think politically correctness leads to globalization. It makes us individuals with no opinions, a nobody, an entity with no life or feelings. Being politically correct means to respect others, not to stop being who you are or believing in what you believe.

Globalization examples:
They stopped putting up the Christmas tree at my university to not hurt other religions.
In my country, Spain, every year they celebrate the "moors and christians" party, where we celebrate the victory of the Spaniards defeated the arabs after 600 years of arab establishment. Now they are thinking of getting rid of it to not hurt the arabs feelings...

To be PC means that you have lost your sense of humor. It means also that you have, indeed, lost you sense of self. Being PC is guilt driven and pushed by those who have more respect for others than themselves. PC is now a cliche and means nothing the those of us who know and love our selves first, but wish no harm to others. All of us have the right to be who we are, without pushing our beliefs on others.

Who exactly started all of this PC stuff? I missed it. I hear about it all the time on Yahoo but I have never heard of anyone being arrested for speaking their mind. Some people in broadcasting have lost their jobs because their sponsors left and to avoid lawsuits from the group they insulted. Insulting the audience is simply not very intelligent.
Atheist groups have sued because of public religious displays. That issue is still up for debate as to its constitutionality. Public entities realize that there is now much diversity within the U.S., so rather than risk assuming they are Christians, they say happy holidays. I don't really see how this is being mandated by the government.
Thinking before we speak is just a matter of personal responsibility and maturity in respecting others. If you respect your own right to your own views, then shouldn't you have the same respect for others. It in no way invalidates your own opinions or life choices. Why is that so threatening to people? Nobody in this country can speak for everyone else.
EDIT: I get your point. There should be no reason for that at all. Having to give up traditions that have no religious connotation is pretty over the top. Possibly celebrating something that happened between the Arabs and the Spaniards 600 years ago is also over the top.

Political correctness is a lie. It has no purpose. People that are taking so much time to be politically correct are not telling the truth. Respect is not being politically correct. A respectful person would tell be how they really feel in a polite manner. Globalization is troubling but it is not entirely the effect of "political correctness".
I agree with you about the idenity part. We need to keep some things the same, such as Christmas.

"Political Correctness" is a derogatory term in present use, as you will tell by most of your answers. The principle behind the thing can be illustrated with a simple example. If a reporter were to write a story about New York population and call the various ethnic groups "Hebes, Wops and Frogs," for instance, his publisher wouldn't print the story. It's obvious why not. Those who say the PC is language of the wimps and equate not being PC as being "honest" are themselves being dishonest. PC is a movement to reduce inter-generational, inter-gender, interracial and other stresses that simply aren't necessary in any culture. Removing the Lord's Prayer (a Christian tradition) from a public school is the right thing to do, since the school is for, and is paid for, by a variety of people, many of whom are not Christian. Meanwhile, Christians can pray as much and as often as they want to; there's no limiting that in introducing a "pc" decision on prayer in the PUBLIC system. Similarly, our speech and writing should not sideline or denigrate people who although different, are citizens of our countries, just as you and I are.

PC is fascism lite, I know in my country there are many people who are against gay marriage, for instance, not anti-gay, but against gay marriage. But it is spoken in whispers because of the PC thugs who would make them feel guilty about their feelings and potentially be ostracized. And im talking about a lot of people, family, freinds, co-workers, and even strangers. It makes you have to act and even think a certain way too avoid being labelled a terrible person because you may think gay marriage makes a mockery of traditional marriage. Thats just one example of PC gone too far.

Well said, and YES it IS out of control. I am who I am and believe what I believe, and though I try not to hurt anyone's feelings, it won't stop me from standing up for what I believe in.
JUST like it didn't stop the liberals who started all this PC stuff from standing up for what they believed in.
We all have the right no matter who agrees or disagrees.

The term "politically correct" baffles me as politicians are
invariabbly incorrect in thier decision making & whose politics
are we talking about anyway, therefore I can't consider political correctness as respecting people, I do however
respect people

Political correctness is a modern evil created by morons who prefer to honour the rights of theives and villains over the rights of decent people.
If I had my way any man who is proven to have commited burglary or violent crime or any kind of theft would have his penis cut off. It won't happen because the politically correct are too stupid to see the wisdom of that which I advocate. But If it did happen my way, crime would cease to exist over night. Who else can end crime overnight?
