When individuals die, do they go to heaven or do they rest in the ground? I recently lost my mother, and want to know where she may be.

I believe in a reincarnation. This is a very complicated belief. Humans only come back as humans. We have free choice, so we can relax in that place called Heaven, or come back to earth to work off our karma and rise in the levels of heaven to get closer to God.

I hope your mother knew the Lord Jesus....The bodies of the dead remain in the ground until the first or second ressurrection . Their souls either go to the Lord in heaven or await the judgement at the 2nd resurrection in the earth . When Jesus returns (soon ) all those who served him will have their bodies resurrected . This is the first resurrection .They (the Saints) will be judged for their good works at the judgement seat of Christ. They will then rule with Christ on earth for 1000 years. The sinners will be resurrected after the 1000 years and will stand before Christ at the Great White Throne judgement . It is here they will give account to God for every idle word spoken , every evil thought and deed and they will be condemned and cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 20:4-6 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

Revelation 20:11 - 15 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

when we die we are either in a place of peace or torment. Based on how we lived our life. We will be there til the judgement. then we will reside in heaven./hell forever. we know immediately upon death where we are going, no surprises.God bless!

The body returns to the ground, & becomes dust again.
The person or soul goes to paradise, as Jesus said,
to the good thief: "Today you will be with me in paradise."
From there, we will all join at the final Judgement.
