“For six years sow your field and gather in what it produces. But in the seventh year let it rest, and do not harvest anything that grows on it. The poor may eat what grows there, and the wild animals can have what is left. Do the same with your vineyards and the olive trees.” (Exodus 23:10-11)

"When you are trying to capture a city, do not cut down its fruit trees, even though the siege lasts a long time. Eat the fruit, but do not destroy the trees are not enemies." (Deuteronomy 20:19)

It's not saying that. This was not meant for all generations. That was a cultural thing because women didn't have equal representation back then. In this early Christian culture, women were treated well un like other cultures who allowed beating, sexism, etc. Many women had influential parts in the Bible, the Old Testament and New, and had influential parts in ministry and the church. It is not saying you can't talk in church. There are verses that call men out here as well. Many people will take this verse out of context to try to persuade you the Bible and Christianity is sexist, but it is not. IT was a cultural thing that really had to do with disruptions going on in the church at the time.

I think you'll find that when people go around spouting Bible quotations, they are highly selective. They have a certain few quotes that appear over and over again, like the big signs they used to hold up at football games. Virtually all of the Bible, however, is never going to be quoted by such people.

I think the reason is that such people are a modern version of the Second Century Christian cult known as the Gnostics. The Gnostics believed most of Christianity, and even most of what Jesus said, to be chaff. The real truth, they thought, came from understanding a few choice sayings of Jesus. With those, you'd be saved, and the rest of Christianity would be unimportant.

The Church Fathers realized the threat from Gnosticism, and fought it by writing the New Testament. Instead of leaving a few sayings of Jesus to be blown out of all proportion while the rest was ignored, they set down the whole of Jesus' life and words, as best they could be found, in books that anyone, not simply holier-than-thou Gnostics, could read.

It seems ironic that modern Gnostics try to defeat the purpose of the Bible as given us by the Church, by simply repeating endlessly a few choice quotations and ignoring the rest.

These rules do not apply to Christians today. See Colossians 2 and Ephesians 2.

However, both do make a lot of sense.

I know some Christian farmer who rotate their crops and don't use fertilizer and they make more money that way in the long rung.

Exactly the opposite of the "scortch the earth" mentality practiced by Saddam's troops as they left Kuwait, 17 years ago.

Before they left Kuwait they did as much damage as they could including starting fires at every oil well they could.

And if they could not start a fire, at least they destroyed the ability to pump oil from the well.

The Exodus law could be applied to greedy farmers today - to show them how they are abusing their God-given land. It also shows how the principle of sabbath-keeping was to be lived out in the lives of God's covenant people, the Jews. Even the soil was to enjoy a sabbath-like rest every 7th year, plus every 50th year, which was the Jubilee Year when slaves were set free and land restored to them. This taught respect for people, animals and the soil as God-given gifts, to be looked after God's way.

The Deuteronomy one could be used to expose war-mongers who practise a 'scorched earth' policy, which is devilish. This law kept the Israelites from sinking down into the debauched ways of the pagan nations surrounding them. Indeed, all of God's Mosaic laws were designed to do this. God's covenant people Isarael were to be set apart - different - holy. Today, God's covenant people - Christians - are to be set apart - different - holy. Absolutely everything in life is transformed by the power of God in the lives of believers, from farming to dealing with one's enemies. The principles carry through from one dispensation to the next.

Most frequently, Christians are not sufficiently aware of what the Bible says.

Jesus said - Ye Shall Know The Truth and the Truth shall make you free.

If you are ignorant of the Truth, this leads to bondage and ignorance. People perish because of a lack of knowledge. They perish because of a lack of knowledge of God's word.

Christians today get themselves into trouble when they choose not to use quotes from the Bible in their daily decisions.

Christians DON'T use these instructions today. We can tell by the "address" to whom these instructions WERE given, and it is to the Nation Israel.

This is the common mistake made by even professing believers today. They think that all the Bible is written TO and ABOUT them, but the truth of the matter is that its NOT. The majority of the Bible is instructions for a NATION made up of Jews. The part in the middle; Romans thru Philemon is OUR specific "mail" having to do with the church which is His Body today.

There are TWO separate methods of worship in the Bible. One is Judaism, and one is Christianity. One is based on the law of Moses, and one is based on the dispensation of the GRACE of God. They are NOT the same.

These verses really do not teach moral principles, but are historical narratives of Joseph and then the tribe of Israel in Canaan.

We read the historical narratives historically, the apocalyptic passages prophetically, the poetic passages with literary intent, so on and so forth.

Only an individual has the ability to act. "Christians" infers a group action. Which requires group think This is currently impossible. But it looks like you are endorsing group think so we eventually act as a group. Why would anyone ant that?

Christians should know how to divide their Bible. They should know that OT scriptures are written to the Nation of Israel and not to the church today. They are written for our learning but not doctrine for the church. 2 Timothy 2: 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
