It is recommended that a person on a 2000 calorie per day diet (a normal person) get about 300 grams of carbs, at least 35 of which should be fiber. That leaves a lot left for other starches and simple carbs (sugars). 40 grams of sugar TOPS for a kid...

When it becomes all they want. The problem with sugar is they develop a taste for it and then, when older, do not make healthy food choices. Remember that so many foods have hidden sugar. ( Check out labels) Many teens who drink four and five soft drinks a day have no idea how much sugar they are taking in and how badly it affects the body. Sugar is almost as bad as trans fat. Try giving foods with natural sugars... like fruit.

Probably any extra is too much. We all get a certain amount of sugar in everything we eat. But during the Holidays we most certainly eat way too much. I would seek out a nutritionist online and see if there is a chart. If a child becomes irritable or just too hard to control, I would say that they have had too much and must not eat anymore that day.

Well according to my mother.... any sugar is too much sugar. Sugar is the second most addictive substance on earth, the first being oxygen.

Their are a lot of advantages of being 'sugar free' but not many of us have the will power to break that addiction.

Most people allow their children to eat sugar. Too much sugar has changed in recent years. While I was growing up, added sugar was bad. Now days most people don't even have a sugar bowl as sugar has already been added to everything we consume (going back to being highly addictive, if you are addicted, then you eat/drink more)

Trying to cut down on sugar is hard to do as well. Sugar now has so many names.... anything with the suffix -ose is some kind of sugar. FDA makes you put down on the can if you have "sugar" and how many grams, but if you substitute malto dextrose, then you don't have to put it as "sugar" in the nutritional label, but its just as sweet, just as addictive, and actually just a bit worse for you.

An easy one is candy, and cookies. Limiting those to once a week or something is pretty easy to do.

Another way to avoid sugar is to avoid processed foods.

However do understand that a person who is addicted to sugar WILL go through withdrawal in a fairly short amount of time without getting their 'fix'. Best to have some cookies around or a Coke, just incase your little angel is turning into a bear (and you don't want to be around people going through sugar withdrawal)

Any granular processed cane sugar is too much. No ones body, especially a childs, needs it.

THe only sugar a person or especially a child needs are those that are found naturally in fruits or vegetables.

Its not right to give a child sweets on a daily basis, especially young children, their bodies dont need it and cannot properly use or get rid of it.

basically, through living experience, a kid can consume so much sugar that in three days they'll hate the sugar. theyl probably have to wait for a while until the sugar cravings come.

Avoid white, refined sugar completely if possible. Sugar increases the risk for diabetes and rots teeth. It makes kids hyper and lowers their immune systems.

Instead, give them fruits.

Too much is when you can notice the physical effects of it. But as a rule of thumb if you can avoid suggary snacks, you should. If your child likes bannanas, then offer something like that before you offer cookies. Learning to eat healthy starts by offering healthy alternatives when they are young.
