I mean I like Windows XP very much but like XP, Vista has never crashed on me I have not found it to be less secure or anything so why extend the sale of an older version?

there will be alot of ppl comfortable with xp that dont want to switch, believe it or not there are still some that prefer windows 2k and windows 98se.
I would guess that it has alot to do with compatibility issues vista has had, not to mention its security flaws.

Since so many companies did not get with the program and develop Vista drivers for compatibility it was causing problems for business users. Microsoft came out and stated they would offer a downgrade to Vista Business users. All of this applied to a large population throughout the world so there was still a big demand for XP. Seeing the poor sales of Vista, Mr. Bill needed money to maintain his lifestyle so they extended the support and sales. That was the only thing really generating high profit.

Windows 2000 is the backbone of XP. It was a totally reliable OS. With Vista came many changes and a whole new set of problems. I suggesst your computer was Vista ready when you bought it.
XP is more stable on the older systems.
Microsoft does not support Win 98 as it used to so those people will have to upgrade to XP which is NTFS.
You do not hear of Win 95 anymore as it is no longer supported, 98 will soon go the same way.

Many people didn't like Vista, with all the bugs and incompatabilities. People started switching back to XP, so Microsoft are now earning more money, and they are extending XP's lifetime to 2010 with the new Service Pack 3. Vista is soon getting Service Pack 1; hopefully it wll fix a lot of problems.

Because there is no noticeable advantage to paying good money for a new OS that has no noticeable improvements over the existing OS.

Face it, Vista is a bust. They promised lots of stuff years ago, continuously unpromised stuff until they had unpromised everything that would seem to be improvement. And to top it off, the boys in Redmond hurried the release date to get it out onto the shelf, even before peripheral manufacturers had a chance to develop new drivers to work with Vista. So don't expect anything to work if you're upgrading onto an existing pc.

Read PC Magazine's reviews - there's no overriding reason to spend money on Vista.

I have decided I won't buy Vista until I need a new computer.

If you've never had Vista crash then you haven't used it on a laptop and/or haven't had enough windows open that it just consumes all your memory and says F*** Y** and locks up.

Plus the login time on Vista when it is connected to the domain is ridiculous. To make it worse, they removed all of the text that tells you want is happening in the background and you just see "Welcome" and this spinning blue circle of death. (hopefully fixed in SP1)

I am almost convinced their is a bug in the Vista wireless networking that causes it drop wireless networks all together when you have two access points on the same SSID that are about equal signal strength.

A majority of the XP applications will run on Vista. However, it sounds weird, but I have had issue with at least two programs not running properly in Vista Aero. And of course problems with drivers. My favorite printer that has been so reliable for so many years, no drivers for Vista by the manufacturer.

Most pcs that are within a couple of years old will support vista but there are those that will not such as nforce 2 motherboards so They are still selling windows xp to the majority of people that are not ready to purchase a newer board at this time. This way Microsoft can keep previos customers. Yes money is still there to be had from selling XP.

they extend xp sales cause vista has some bugs .problems it can't run some of xps software and has crashed on some people and xp users were just switch back to vista so microsoft decide to extend xp's time to 2010 with the new xp sp3 . vista may get better as time moves on vista sp1 may be better . but thats why they extend xp's time

Because it is still new and for the first year or 2 until they get all the problems out of Vista. But as far as me Vista sucks why go to a program forced on you by a company when the progam you use is great to begain with. I just do not like a company telling me what I have to have. Good luck.

Think of all the law firms, clinics, schools, government agencies, etc... Many using specialty (and very buggy) software that only works with XP. If one computer dies in a clinic, they can't just stick a Vista machine with 100s of XP machines (assuming their electronic medical record software is not yet compatible with Vista).
