I'm back home for the holidays and a piece of my lower back tooth has broken off. It's very sharp and rubbing against my tongue, but I can't go to the dentist until Wednesday when I get back. My tongue is sore and cut up, and I don't know what to do. Any help??

Obviously I am not going to the dentist where I am because it is Christmas eve & tomorrow is Christmas day. They're not open.

Dental Wax For Broken Tooth

Right now my molar is broken and has a very sharp point stabbing into my tongue for 2 days now. What i finally did was use my bottom teeth bleaching tray. It is a soft plastic and covers my entire bottom teeth and smooths over the jagged "peak" and my tongue feels so much better now! Stays in securely and unlike wax no chance of it coming apart. My trays were made at a dentist years ago formed fit from my own teeth impression. If you don't have one of those trays, then go to store and get the dental wax people use who have braces to keep their braces from cutting their tongues and gums. I read about filing the part of the tooth but I wouldn't recommend that especially if your tooth is already cracked and weakened, you just might file it and make it break more and then possibly cause it to expose a nerve and then you'll have a pain far worse than a sore cut tongue!!

An emery board is perfect for filing down the rough edges until you can get to a dentist. Cost less than a dollar for a pack. Don't use aspirin as it can burn your gums and cause damage. I had to do this over the Thanksgiving holidays myself until I could get to the dentist. The broken tooth can really cut up your tongue so you have to do something, I know.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.

According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

Many pharmacies or Walmart sell a type of wax or tooth repair kit that you can use to protect the area and your tongue. Go have a look for something like Dentek Toothache Kit or temporary filling. You may also want to try wax that is used for braces.

At a store like Walmart... I believe its where the dental floss is. They have Dental Wax. Its usually for when you have a sharp place on your braces but it can be used for a harp tooth too. Just take a small piece of it and press it over the sharp tooth. (You'll have to take it out when you eat and put a new piece.)

Most ER s will only give you pain med and refer you to your dentist. This happened to my daughter. She broke her two front teeth in half and they were very loose. It happened on a Saturday and had to wait til Mon. to see her dentist, despite a visit to the ER, and me thinking it was a true emergency, they did nothing. I'm an x-ray tech and worked in a hospital 18 years, so I know stumping your toe is not an emergency, but these teeth were very loose and bled forever. It was traumatic for both of us.
