Don't worry the world won't end.
You can apologize for letting the surprise out and then let it go.

OK, first of all, giving money to charity is a wonderful thing, but what a horrible Christmas gift for someone!! I can't believe your friend's dad just went ahead and decided to donate money in her name to charity instead of getting her gifts without even asking her!!! Of course we should be extra generous to charities this time of year, but I don't think it's right for a guy to just go ahead and decide to give money in his daughter's name in lieu of getting her a gift, without even asking her if that's OK first. I think it's kind of a good thing that you told her, because can you imagine her face on Christmas morning when her dad said, "You're not getting any gifts, but I made a donation in your name to XYZ Charity." I would be a little hurt and disappointed if I were her. I mean, if that was just one of her gifts, fine- you know, like those grandparents who get you savings bonds every year instead of toys when you're a little kid. But for that to be her ONLY gift- she would have to be an actual saint to be totally fine with that!! Maybe I'm just selfish and unappreciative of the true meaning of Christmas or something, but I'd be so sad if the big day came around and my own father didn't really get me even a little gift of my own. What he should have done was just give her some cash and then if SHE wanted to donate it to charity, that would be her decision. You can't decide something like that for someone else. It's just not right. Merry Christmas!

Once I accidentally told a friend that I couldn't come to her surprise birthday party...whoops...
I wouldn't worry about it. If she had no clue about it, then she probably just dismissed it as some random thing. It shouldn't change how she feels about the gift tomorrow.
Practically my whole family knows I'm buying ducks from heifer project instead of doing christmas presents, but it's still a nice gesture. :)
Merry Christmas!

just let it go.Since she didn't know what you mean don't bring it up and she will forget about it.It's ok she'll still have the gift and it was an accident so if you'd like tell her after christmas that you were sorry even if it was an accident.

what's a undesirable present and how did they get it by threat? reckoning on the dating you have, you may tell them which you do not in basic terms like the present. be careful, they could get indignant and you may desire to spoil your dating.
