The Holy Gost is the 3rd member of the Godhead. He is the only one without a body. This is because he needs to communicate to us through our spirit, our mind, our intellect. His main purpose in life is to bear witness that Jesus is the Christ. In fact, if he bears witness to you to such a degree that you know, not just think strongly that Jesus is the Christ and then you deny him, you have denied the Holy Ghost which is one of the worst Sins of mankind. Few will attain this level of the Holy Ghost, but it is certain that you will live with Satan for the rest of eternities. This is listed in the scriptures as a Son of Perdition, he that has denied the Holy Ghost.

As a previous Catholic, i was also thought that the Holy Spirit is one with the Holy Trinity. This means that the Holy Spirit is also God himself. And you can receive the benefits or what they call "Gifts of Holy Spirit" through the sacrament of confirmation. The gifts are:
1. Fortitude
2. Knowledge
3. Counsel
4. Fear of the Lord
5. Piety
6. Wisdom
7. Understanding
These are the things also received the 12 apostles during Pentecost.

The Holy Spirit is God Himself, the third Person of the Godhead.

The Spirit is referred to as the spirit of YHVH (who is a spirit) and the spirit of YAHOSHUA (the Messiah, whose name means YHVH is my savior) The spirit convicts and gives repentance. Urges us to stop violating the Laws of YHVH. Clearly very few listen or repent. thus in the end, few will live.
