First,
Sorry to hear you got in trouble and have to go thru this.
Yes they will use cuffs. It is proceedure. It does not matter what you did, any transports are restrained.
No... you will not be weraing your own clothes. They want everyone in uniforms. At my jail, they cannot even wear thier own panties and NO bras. They supply them. You get a tee shirt and uniform shirt to put over it.
You will be Pat searched before entering the booking area. Then you will be strip search when you are booked and changed over into the uniform.
When you do a strip search, you will be requird to strip completley down to nothing. Run your fingers thru your hair, (and depending on the length, flip it over to see the hair line)show behind your ears, in your ears, open your mouth and lift your tongue, lift your breasts, then arms (to see arm pits) . Then turn away from the officer, show the bottom of your feet, and finally squat and cough. You will then, depending on the jail, head to a showering area. If you are required to shower, you will use a soap they give you to "quell" ( kills lice, crabs , scabbies etc.) Alot of jails quell to keep the spread of things like that down.
Sorry to say, you will need to get over being moddest. You will be using the bathroom in fromt of others also. Believe me, the strip searches are the WORST part of my job!! We do not like conducting them any more than you will like doing them. But it is a need to make sure you are not smuggling any weapons , drugs, or any other contraband in the facility.
Hope your 10 months goes fast, and remember to just relax, and do what ever the jailers tell you to do. Also if you have any questions... ask them. The inmates always send the new inmates the wrong direction for fun. (especially if they see you are scared and new)
Hope this helped...

I'm sorry you are going through this. Just remember that this will pass and you'll be home soon. My husband is in prison. I know women prisons can be different. But this is advice he would give:
Stay away from other people, keep to yourself. If you talk to others, be sure not to "become friends", it's not worth it.
Do not "rat" others out.
See if your family and friends can send you money (or save up some yourself), for soap, shampoo, stamps, etc. Most prisons do not supply these things.
Do not hog the phone!
You will be handcuffed during transport, and strip searched. After visits, you may also be searched. (depends on the facility and set up)
When you take a shower, it's like being in the shower room at a school gym...from my understanding. Get a pair of Shower Shoes, less likely the chance of getting foot fungus.
The chow hall is like a cafeteria in school. Do not cut in line.
You should be fine if you follow these basic rules and don't cause problems.
Follow EVERY rule, no matter HOW silly they seem. If they say you cannot bring a cup of coffee out of the cafeteria, don't chance it! You could have more time added to your sentence and not be eligible for probation (or parole) if you get too many disciplinary tickets.

Yes as you will be hand cuffed
You will wear the cloths that they issue you
You will be strip searched
In the strip search they will look in places that you would have to use a mirror to see
A lot of people will see you naked
You will loss all your modesty by the time you get out
My advise to you is to go a long with the flow the inmates for the most are people just like you. Just be your self and tell the inmates that this is your first time being in a hell hole like that and they will help you get through it. Remember that the inmates are in the say place that you are they are your friends now not by choice. You will see a lot of things that you would never believe while you are there just keep them to yourself.Once you are there you will make a few close friends that have been there a while take their advise and you will come through it okay. One more thing try not to dwell on the time sleep as much as you can and if you have access to books do a lot of reading to help take your mind away from where you are.
Good Luck

Well it matters if you are going to a state prison or a federal prison. Here in Hawaii the federal prison was like a resort (best time of my life!) as compared to the state which the conditions are horrible! But I have heard that in the mainland it is the other way around. So if you know where you are going do some research and look it up. They have to restrain you during transport, then you get strip searched, which is a little demeaning, but no one touches you. Then they do a psych eval to see if you are suicidal (don't be it sucks in isolation) then they do a medical eval, bloodwork and such. If you didn't or won't have medical insurance when you were/are free you should take advantage and get any procedures you need done while you're there. They issue you clothes- a uniform with everything you'll be needing to wear. In federal there were seperate showers with all the hot water you need and an abundance of toiletpaper and pads. The food was great there especially if you work in the kitchen (we got to drink soda, make our own iced tea and when we were back at our cells there was juice and milk on tap!) I've heard in state they issue you 1 pack of those squares you used to use in elementary school, to last the whole week! And the food definitely sucked big time in state jail. Like they tried hard to make it unedible! Federal, we got to watch movies on the weekends and had karaoke on Holidays! Oh and there were only 2 headcounts in Fed as opposed to 7 in State - disruptive if your asleep. Oh and if it aint yours, DON"T touch it! Even if you think you have the "owners" permission. Also make sure that if you have nice jewelry hide it well (at or around your home) I left my diamond rings with my BF and when I got out he said they were stolen...never forgave him. And make sure you have someone to put money in your books,(we had a $250.00 per week limit) it makes all the difference to be able to shop for stuff in there, easier to make friends when you have lots of candy bars and makeup! Keep your things neatly together and follow the rules. Hopefully you will get a cool roomie where you can work out some kind of signal for when you need privacy to use the bathroom. Don't talk too much, keep your head and eyes down and try to make friends with the toughest girl there. If you are straight make sure that you state you're straight and they should leave you alone. Fed had cameras everywhere so no one really did anything stupid. If they offer religious classes take them or the 12 step or NA or AA or whatever they have. Use the library when you can and the gym if they have one. Fed had all new equiptment and videos and everything (a resort I tell you!) Make sure you have everyones numbers and addresses memorized for your allotted phone time and for writing to - it's extremely helpful in passing the time. I took a meditiation class and claimed I was a muslim so I didn't have to wash dishes on days that pork was served! That was the only downfall about working in the kitchen (besides the 6cents an hour) endless dish washing!!! Thousands of fricken dishes! Even now I am out I hate doing dishes because of all those damn trays I washed! Luckily you have only a few months, well not a few, but less than a year is a blessing. My friend just got sentenced to 200 months and he is only 25 so he will be there til he's 41! There goes all his vital years...So count your blessings and keep a low profile and next time don't get caught! Good luck and take care.

I've read about the conditions in jail and they are not good, it's overcrowded and inmates are sleeping on the floor in the bathroom. There are staff infections and other diseases going around. My guess is that if you did not commit a serious crime you will be doing less time, they often let people out early cause it's so overcrowded.
Take care, bottom line is to stay out of trouble, not an easy thing to do here in los angeles. There's a lot of crazy people around. Me, I plan on moving back to san gabriel valley 12 miles away from the los angeles area.

Let me answer in the order of your questions:
1.Will they use cuffs and restraints during transportation?
ABSOLUTELY- EVERYONE TRANSPORTED OR TRANSFERRED GETS CUFFED..PERIOD.
2. Will I get to wear my own clothes?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. YOU WILL BE ISSUED JAIL CLOTHING. YOUR CLOTHING, JEWELRY, WATCHES, HAIR CLIPS, ETC. WILL BE STORED AWAY UNTIL YOUR RELEASE.
3. Will I be strip searched?
YES. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DURING YOUR 10 MONTHS.
4. What a strip search exactly is?
YOU WILL COMPLEETLY UNCLOTHED AND YOUR ORFICES WILL BE CHECKED FOR CONTRABAND.
5.Will anyone see me naked?. I am a modest person and I can't imagine having to strip in front of strangers!!
SORRY, HONEY. THERE WILL BE OTHER INMATES AND FEMALE CORRECTIONS OFFICERS PRESENT.
Good luck and I hope this 'stint' in jail will serve as a wake up call to not get into trouble again.

You will be hand cuffed, Strip searched, body cavity search, and you will be in front of everyone, you will have a stool in your cell and you will have to use the bathroom in front of your cell mate so you may as well forget modest, if you want to get along they have a saying " Gay for the stay". But don't let all of this keep you from enjoying the Holiday's, Merry Christmas and Happy New year.

You're going to jail, not to prison. From what I've heard (and keep in mind this is just hearsay) jail is better than prison because for the most part you will be housed with other people who are sentenced to less than a year, which excludes the most violent offenders.
On the other hand, Wikipedia says exactly the opposite, that jails tend to be more violent than prisons because most people housed in jails haven't been convicted or sentenced yet and the violent ones haven't yet been weeded out and locked away by themselves.

Yes you will be hand cuffed during transportation and when you get there you will be stripped down and searched down to the last crevice. I mean really they will really search every part of you outside and inside. Ohh and everyone will see you naked you best get use to it cuz the showers are just an open space with shower heads.
Best advise I can give you don't make waves. Try not to get noticed to much cuz if you do its either you end up some womans "bit.ch" or stabbed.
