I had a vision of her still constantly saying the word "shoes!" at the age of 15 years, 21, 30 etc.

Could a woman survive if she was so obsessed with shoes?

And no, I am not the father of Imelda Marcos.

It is OK you are safe! Well probably!
It is an extremely difficult word for a toddler to get their tongue around so no doubt she is very proud of herself.

Just keep mentioning in her presence that people only have two or three pairs of shoes and make sure she doesn't see too many handbags!

I have a boy in the school I teach that is around that same age and always says "ball". It's not a big deal, she probably just likes the sound of the word and it's the one word that she absolutely knows what it means and it makes her happy. She probably also knows that when she made the connection that the word "shoes" meant the things on your feet it made you happy. So in turn she keeps saying it to make you happy as well.

Get some site word flash cards for things around the house and giver her new connections to make. Things like bed, baby, door, coat, shirt, pants, socks, block

Her vocab will grow from there.

Good luck

My 16 mos old says shoes and plays with her shoes a lot. If we have the baby gate down, she goes to the shoes by the door and says shoes shoes, SheeO! (as in stinky). She is so cute.

*laugh* relax, things could be much worse. mine used to say "damn" ALL. THE. TIME. it's a phase, and i think it's because they are proud that they know the word and can communicate.

i'm not saying your daughter won't always be into shoes, but it's not something to worry about.

Well my little girl said "soap" a lot and now that she's 3 she loves soap more than any other thing in the world...when people ask her what Father Christmas is bringing her she says "soap." which is very embarassing...people probably think I dont wash her enough!

Oh dear. I had the same with my baby girl. She's 21 now, and still says 'shoes' as often as she can. Our spare room is her shoe room!

My 2 yearl old is also obsessed with shoes, but she seams ok. Every morning she brings me her days choice while I am still in bed and says"Mama, I'm sorry.... My shoes" and then she waits for me to help her get them on.

I use her passion for shoes to teach her. "These shoes are PINK." "These shoes have VELCRO." "These shoes are BOOTS." etc, etc..

Hopefully you have bought her some for Christmas!
Shoes is an easily pronounced word - it'll grow out of her in time. :-)

Girls just happen to like shoes. This is nothing more than a natural phenomena passed down to us from our mothers, generation after generation. lol :-)
