If the faithful slave?!(i think that is what you call the leader? sorry if wrong)said not to use the internet would you listen?
Or does it have to be a certain site?
I guess I am trying to ask, does it have to be spelled out for you or are you able to see the bad in something without them saying do this or do not do this?!

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus entrusted "the faithful and discreet slave [class]" with the authority to dispense spiritual food at the proper time to all of Christianity, and to supervise all of Christ's "belongings" on earth. That does not elevate any individual human, but does build respect for the earthly organization which directs the global preaching work.
...(Matthew 24:45-47) Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master [that is, Jesus] appointed over his domestics, to give them their [spiritual] food at the proper time? Happy is that slave if his master on arriving finds him doing so. Truly I say to you, He will appoint him over all his belongings.

The experiences of most Jehovah's Witnesses have persuaded them that 'the faithful slave' has conscientiously and judiciously exercised its authority; instruction has been predominantly general, occasionally specific, and unfailingly bible-based and God-honoring rather than based on a myriad of petty rules and regulations.

For example, for decades now the publications of Jehovah's Witnesses have cautioned each Christian to be careful in his choice of television programs, and noted that television in general can absorb an inordinate amount of a viewer's time. In more than sixty years, Jehovah's Witnesses' 'faithful slave' has specifically mentioned a mere handful of programs which seem to merit particular caution, but of course there was never any particular "punishment" involved for a Witness who insisted on viewing the program.

It would seem that such principles apply almost exactly to one's choice of internet websites and the internet in general.

Just so you know before i answer, i am a witness :D

The internet is like the telephone-a very helpful device which in itself is not dangerous.

Yet JW's ARE warned about sites which contain violent, sexual, demonic images, dicussions etc. But the internet itself is not evil. Brothers use them to obtain info on subjects, they use them to keep in contact, and (SHOCKER) we use it to enjoy ourselves on! I love the internet. what we are advised never to go on are pornographic sights or anything which can corrupt or go against Bible principles.

Some matters are left for the individual to decide.

It's VERY unlikely the brothers will ask us to stop using the internet. It's a very helpful tool! so yeah, it's just certian sites. But personally i think what we are told is wrong it isn't just wrong for us. The church would say the same but hey! they don't do they?

Oh and the other day i was asked 'are JW's allowed to watch TV', just incase anyone was wondering-we are lol

Hope this helped, ask more questions but just be sure you're getting the right info, loads of people on here would jump at the chance to lie about JWs :(

JW's do not have a law against the internet. If that were the case, you wouldn't be getting answers from any of them on this site, that's for sure.

What they do do is give caution to those who want to go on the internet. They warn against sites such as pornography or violence because....well, have you heard the term "junk in, junk out"? For those who can't resist those types of temptations, they recommend staying away from the internet.

No body on this earth is perfect, NOBODY. However, I have personally followed the faithful and descret slave because I feel they come closer to true clean worship than any other religions.

How many churches allow fornication, adultry, drugs, etc? The witnesses (organization) do not tollerate such behavior. They do get reprimanded and given multiple chances. Eventually they could be disfellowshiped if they don't repent. It's the way they keep the congregations clean and free of corruption. Sometimes you run into those who show up at the hall and live one way, then once they leave, do whatever they want. Some do it for years. But eventually things will catch up to them. Jehovah sees all and will take care of it in HIS time, not ours.

The things that are spelled out to avoid are things such as violence, porn, and the such. Things that one should avoid in every day life. We have to remember that Jehovah is ALWAYS watching us.

Of course I can see something as being bad without needing to be told. I am a Christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses. As a Christian I've studied the Bible.

Never has the Internet itself been banned by the society, nor will it.

Consider, the internet is allot like a power tool. It can be very usefull, but must be used with some caution, care and intelligence.

The computer is a vast of great info and can be very helpful. It also has a vast of info and sites that can be very harmful, these harmful sites are the things that we need to stay away from. The Faithful and Discreet are like loving parents. Just as your parents gave you good counsel and advice to stay away form things that would be harmful for you, The Faithful and Discreet to the same for us. This info is not only good for those you are part of Jehovah's Organization but also for anyone that need and want good reliable sound advice.

They have constant articles in their Watchtower and Awake which spell out the dangers of the Internet because of Apostate lies.
You might notice that a good number of us have posted links to websites which have a critical opinion of the religion.
They are basically taught to shun anything that is anti jw.

If something is Anti JW it is the same as being Anti God.
I.e. I could tell a JW that one of their teachings is not bible based, but since they believe that the Faithful and Discreet Slave are the only ones who can properly interpret the Bible then they won 't listen to anyone who says something different.

They literally put the teachings of the Slave on par with God.

Reject the Slave = Reject God
So while they are not taught to avoid a certain site, they are taught to avoid, strictly shun anything that is specifically against their religion, as it is against God.

The faithul and discreet slave warns us of the use of the Internet and that we must be careful. It doesn't mean that everything in the Internet is wrong. www.watchtower.org

There are billions of sites around today, the faithful and discreet slave (who are not "the leader"- but then again, you know that already, don't you?) does not have the time to investigate each one!!! They would not need to mention a particular site, but Biblical principles would help each individual decide whether a particular site falls under "bad" or "good".

If YOU feel uncomfortable being on Y!A dear brother/sister, do not hurt your conscience.... log off.

They would never say that because they wouldn't be able to support it scripturally.

Jehovah's Witnesses are like over protective parents. They have beliefs, and anything or anyone that contradicts those beliefs are considered dangerous.
Isolation does not make a person strong. In fact the inexperience is more dangerous than the people/things that contradict their faith.
