Do western Muslim women face the same inequalities...?

Also, is it acceptable for western Islamic women to be subserviant to males because it is the will of Allah?

You have to understand that even if they do view things differently (and they do indeed - my family is an example of that), it's not because they practise some ''correct'' version of Islam. It's because they're secular and moderate.

I live in a Muslim neighbourhood, I grew up among them and I have never met a religious nut. Even those devout types keep their faith private and to themselves. But 90% of Muslims that I know in real life wouldn't even be considered Muslims by those eastern types, simply because they don't follow Qur'an and the Sunnah to the letter.

There's another extreme that I witness on a daily basis. Muslim women who choose to wear hijab (headcover) are being mocked, believe it or not, by Muslims - not by non-Muslims. Religion in western society has become more a matter of identity and heritage, not practise. Most Muslims that I know are even ashamed of some of the rules in Qur'an and mock them on a daily basis. I'm not going into details of how ethical and moral that is - to each its own.

So, to finally answer your question - western Muslims do view things differently, but it still doesn't change the fact that they omit a good portion of Islam (the negative one) in order to fit in the society.

They pick and choose. We could debate for hours on how good it is to do so, though. That's a topic for itself.

Unfortunately, we are brainwashed in this society and often see things the way the ppl in charge want u to see them ie, It was the western world leaders that came up with the inequalities of men and women, think about it - Why was womens lib in the 60's made?, this proves that women were (are)oppressed, whereas in the Islamic State many years ago, the women were entitled to inheritance, equality in all kinds of things, the western woman would look at the Muslim woman and wish to be like her. So she stood up and demanded the rights that the Islamic State already gave her citizens.

Unfortunately,the Islamic state was destroyed and now the western muslim or non muslim woman is subservient to mans law - ie democracy, It isn't the will of Allah for any person to be subservient to man, let alone live under his rule. Man has unfortunately chosen this path and the women have just got on with it, dressing in the way a man wants her to dress, ie expose her flesh for man, starve herself so she can "look good??" without asking "Why??"

People are brainwashed to believe a point of view, has anyone ever questioned it and got to the bottom of it, We owe it to ourselves to find out and expose the truth...

1. whatever equalities or inequalities muslim women have in the west depend on their cultural background and upbringing. You may be surprised to learn that many muslim women in a country like Malaysia enjoy a much better observance of their rights because their countrymen have a clearer understanding of Islamic teachings.

2. It is not acceptable, nor is it expected nor required, in Islam for women to be 'subservient' to men, for the most part, whether in the East or the West, as it is, in fact, Not the will of God. Muslim men and women (within a family setting) both have rights that must be fulfilled by the other, both have duties of faith that are equal in the eyes of God (such as prayers - fasting - pilgrimage - paying alms - fairness in treatment of others), and both have social and familial responsibilities that are different (depending on circumstance) in the eyes of society. (The correct application of this concept in the real world, however, is far from perfect, due to the vast ignorance of many modern muslims)

3. To an extent, there is a difference in how Eastern and Western muslims view things such as current events and political affairs. Muslims who have lived all their lives in the West may also view religious matters differently. However, don't forget that there is a large chunk of the Western muslim population that emigrated to the West with their own perceptions, cultural traditions, beliefs and ignorances fully intact and impervious to any influence from western culture.

I'm guessing that you may have already come across people who've given you similar answers for the purpose of 'correcting misconceptions'. As long as people keep asking such questions, those of us who do know the truth will continue to make these corrections, so please don't dismiss them.

I just hope this hasn't added to the confusion.

I don't think it matters what religion you are in order for you to view things differently. The same can be said for many Christians too. For example Christians in various parts of the world will also have practises which are different slightly to another group of Christians elsewhere in the world. Similarly In Islam , if Muslims have different approaches to their faith, does not necessarily make them more religious in the east or vice verca. Culture also plays a huge part in various religions, where some traditions are so common that are thought of as religious because they are intertwined with faith. So the core faith will remain the same but geographical differences will always remain.

Also being subservient cannot always be viewed as a totally negative thing. because in eastern countries being subservient is the norm, not just because of religion. Laws of a Islam must not always be demonised and viewed in the wrong sense, because that will always lead to negative approaches. Being subservient doesn't always apply to 'obeying' in the literal sense. It is a general term requiring respect and humbleness and is something which is not just applicable to Muslim women!

Allah's laws are not to deter people but to provide betterment for not just the Muslim individual but for entire communities ensuring peace, if they are followed and understood as they are meant to be. Not to be abused my men or women for their own desires

To answer your question, the problem lies in the Muslim women's lack of self-determination and self-awareness. Most of them are just content with doing their husband's bidding because they've been doing so for generations, watching their mothers do the same, their grandmothers do the same and such. It has just become second nature to most of them. Given all the fiasco surrounding early marriages and polygamy, most Muslim women are just happy to marry a capable Muslim man at a suitable age. That's enough for them; the fact that they are not supposed to be treated as inferior in the family doesn't even occur to them. Some horrifyingly even BELIEVE that women are the inferior of the two sexes and should act so. As a result they oppose feminism as western propaganda to cause unrest in society.

first of all in islam women are subservient to no one, including their husbands or any other men for example. in some cultures women are subservient to men, which has nothing to do w/ islam, it has to do w/ culture, because some people have been doing these practices since before their people became muslim, so when they became muslim, they didn't throw away their culture. and it is NOT Allah's will for women to be subservient to women, if you knew something about islam, you know more than what is on the news or whatever someone who hates islam told you. i am muslim and i have read all about islam, and i know for a fact that the quran, hadith, and sunna all show that women are equal to men, and that they have certain rights over men, that men don't have over them. and that is islam, not culture

There is no inequality in islam for man and women however their duties and risponsibilities are defined regarding their biological/spirtual/physical distinctions.
