what is the patties. we call patty to the grandmother. Can you explain.

Not all words "sound like" what they mean.
Our word "patty" is derived from the French word Pate'.
French pate' is similar to Merriam Webster's second definition of the word patty:
"2 a: a small flat cake of chopped food "
