Excellent question. Usually Lithium Ion batteries (~14V)have a higher voltage than your standard AA battery (1.5V). Other than this I can't see the benefit of it.
to use an analogy Lithium Ion is like a Ford RS200. Immensely powerful but only for a short time and Alkaline batteries are like a Diesel Car. Won't win many races but will last a long time.
