As a cult, JW's have to go to GREAT lengths to protect their false religion. I'm surprised your "friend" is even aloud to associate with you.

I'm really really sorry I'm not JW but I really need to respond. Since when was God hardhearted? It says in the Bible: 'The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation.' (NUMBERS 14:18) The LORD is slow to anger loving and forgiving. But He only throws people to Hell when they are guilty! Okay now, I just have some things to say to the JWs out there... I want to talk about the Trinity. You can comment on this if you want but I have something to say. I want to talk about John 1:1 ... What does your Bible say? In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was a god. Am I right? According to the New World Translation. However what I don't get is that your Bible is the ONLY version of the Bible with that translation ... NIV - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. NASB - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Msg - The Word was first, the Word present to God, God present to the Word. The Word was God, in readiness for God from day one. AB - In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. NLT - In the beginning the Word already existed. the Word was with God, and the Word was God (N)KJV - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ESV - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. CEV - In the beginning was the one who is called the Word. The Word was with God and was truly God. And 10 other translations says the same thing. I'm not going to accept anyone saying "Yeah because our Bible is unique, it is the only one which makes it true." No ... actually KJV which says "...and the Word was God." came from the Latin translation, from the Greek. And every other translation says that. It is proven that Jesus is God AND man. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (1 JOHN 5:7) God bless!

This is asked ALLOT. I will try to find my old answer to it. Here it is:
Answering on Y!A is something I do for a couple of reasons. One is because to post questions you must have points, to obtain points you need to answer questions, to get questions fast you need best answers, to get best answers you should answer about something you know, since I know my beliefs I feel this is a good subject for me to answer on. I also answer questions about Anime, Pets, Video Games, TV, etc. I originally came to Y!A because I at times have questions about various things, mostly related to videogames (which I in turn am a seller these trying HARD to get a hobby/business going). I have also found Y!A to be a good source of aid with my poor typing/spelling skills.
I do occasionally count an hour or two of my time (when answering about the Bible), if I see my answers were actually read and helpful. Even then I only count an hour or two. I view it as informal Witnessing. Being a Witness is not a 9-5 thing, it should be a 24, 7 thing. So just as I count the time when I informally Witness real world I do when I witness here.
I do appreciate the concern your comment shows. The net is not a place to make friends. Just as there are good and bad people in the real world there are Good and Bad people on line. The difference is it is much easier to hide ones truer nature on the net. Discernment is always needed.
A good bar to judge whether or not to count time, or whether or not one should be here, is does it bother your conciense to do it??, if so, then don't

No, it's not wrong to be on here. We have done much good. Just the other day I had a man contact me and told me that because of things he had been reading that were posts on here from Jehovah's Witnesses, he had decided to start his study back up even though his wife was atheist and would give him a hard time. I've heard of several of those happening. So what we do here is a good thing. I keep a list of known apostates and if I see ones comments I just skip it or like Vot said just collapse it, so you don't have to read it. This is not a chat room.

I think this particular website is relatively healthy and protected and serves good in reaching some people who might otherwise shy away from the JWs. In cases like Mr. Pestie, it has helped him to return to the truth, and may incite others to do the same. Of course discretion needs to be used so as not to displease Jehovah. I often wondered why the internet was not used more to find honest hearted ones, and this site serves that purpose somewhat. In general the society has concerns regarding the use of the internet, and we have to be careful that it doesn't replace the established practices.

No.
This site is not just like a "chat room". I for one am not chatting with anyone on here. I ask and answer questions, the same I'd do in class.
Y!A is NOT an apostate website either. They may use it (they have the right to) but it is not theirs.
People state things against our beliefs ALL the time, wherever we go. The only advantage on here is that the cowards don't get to say it to our faces.
There is no need to read what known apostates say. We know who they are, and even when we don't just the first line of an answer can tell you where the rest is going.
The thumbs-down button comes in handy here- when you click that at the end of an apostate answer, the whole thing folds down. If you don't read what they say, it's really "out of sight, out of mind".
JWs CAN get on sites, we have our own site http://www.watchtower.org/.
Some people here on Y!A never answer the doors when JWs come a'knocking, but they get to read what we are all about on here, and some may be more inclined to listen or even ask questions the next time someone visits them.
We just avoid sites that are faith damaging and that displease God (porn, violent, racist, apostate etc)
(Question to you- if this question is to "JWs only", why do you have to explain what "apostate things" means? Stop hiding)

If your conscience is telling you not to be on Yahoo! Answers then listen to it.
Of course there are dangers on the Internet. You must be careful to avoid them. For example if an user (apostate) emails you with anti-witness information you mustn't read it, but delete it. You can block that user.
Email/add as contacts only users who have been giving answers and posted questions which seem to speak the truth.

This is a good question.
I was a Jehovah's Wittiness , was out for a long time & now going through the steps to become one again.
I retired from this site as i found i was wasting time here better spent studying.I am on holidays so i will be on for the next few days .
What happened to me was i joined R&S with no intention of getting involved with the wittness but in no time i found myself thinking about my sprituality.
While there are apostates & others who run the JW's down on this site good things can happen too , i met a regular today who answered one of my questions last night and he has started a bible study today.
I think the key is to know who and what to answer.
My understanding is that the JW's in general are encourged to stay away.
This is my view and may differ from offical view , I am sure you will get an answer from a full JW who will correct me if i am wrong.

Most students in "junior high" are between 11 and 14 years old; they should not be on the internet without their parents' supervision.
Of course, adults among Jehovah's Witnesses have always taken advantage of the latest technology to further their ministry.
Between 1910 and 1914, Jehovah's Witnesses incrementally released a monumental presentation of color pictures, moving pictures, and sound entitled "Photodrama of Creation" (excerpts are available on YouTube and other places). It seems remarkable to recognize that this film is nearly a century old, in color with synchronized sound!

Before and after that, Jehovah's Witnesses were already experimenting with networks of telephone tie-ins and radio broadcasts. Even in those early years of radio and telephone, those early Witnesses sometimes presented simultaneous live audio of a bible discourse to perhaps of a million listeners.
By the 1920s and 1930s, Jehovah's Witnesses designed and manufactured portable record players which their ministers carried from door to door. The minister could play record albums of bible discourses for householders in rural areas where transportation was still mostly by walking and horse. Of course, the recorded discourse was followed up by an offer of bible-based literature and a continuing personal discussion.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Jehovah's Witnesses actually designed, built, and programmed their own custom computers to perform phototypesetting in dozens of different language (no commercial system had yet been developed, and no computer platform had yet emerged as a clear standard). In the late 1980s, they reprogrammed this software to run on standard high-end PC computers, allowing quality translation work to be performed even by a remote missionary on a laptop, perhaps miles from air conditioning or a power grid. These technology innovations enable Jehovah's Witnesses to release The Watchtower simultaneously in 145 languages (another dozen or so languages are not simultaneous).
While there were other early film releases, the 1990s saw a batch of new video and DVD releases by Jehovah's Witnesses. Soon, many short videos were made available on the official websites of Jehovah's Witnesses (a selection are listed at the end of this answer).
Jehovah's Witnesses will continue to utilize whatever technologies seem appropriate to better educate their adherents, students, and the public about issues related to true Christianity and the bible. What better choice of print, sound, video, and internet virtual "association" than that produced by the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses?
(1 Corinthians 15:33) Do not be misled. Bad associations spoil useful habits.

No. I don't agree. This isn't a chat room. Many people are asking genuine questions and are looking for answers. That is where witnessing comes into play.
I personally have had some 'return visits' so to speak.I have met some nice brothers and sisters.
Of course you have to be careful - like any website. There are also apostates that should be avoided. But all in all this is a nice avenue to sing Jehovah's praises to the world, and yes, glorify our wonderful creator,Jehovah God.

The governing body allows those who are unable to go house to house to do "telephone studies" and some still do letter writing witnessing. This medium is a technological advance to those forms of preaching. As has already been pointed out, we run into people who do not share our beliefs every time we go out in service, so that is not a valid argument. In fact those are the very people we are trying to reach. You just have to be careful, use the Bible and your reasoning ability to inform those from who the truth has been hidden.
