My boyfriend who is of Indian background with parents living in India, will not tell his parents that we are in a relationship. I have met them, but he introduced me as a friend. He says that he wants to finish his studies before telling them, as otherwise they would blame him for not studying well, on the relationship. He has told his friends in India about me, but hasn't really allowed me to interact with them, which he says is because of the fact that he hardly talks to them himself and sees no point in me just talking on the phone with them.
We have been dating for more than 1.5 years and have talked about marriage and kids. He says he can only tell them just before he gets married to me...which is similar to my situation too. The only reason why my parents found out, was because they saw me and him together.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on his mind?
Especially anyone of an Indian background? I'm not an Indian, but from the subcontinent myself.

If his parents are traditional, they should be choosing his wife. At the very least, he should marry an Indian girl.
He may be afraid to tell you this. He may not think you'll understand. He may not intend on marrying you.
I don't mean to alarm you. It's just what popped into my head when I read your question.

As Indian, My feelings regarding this is +ve. But U dont have to worry. Its common to think by any parent here that If u have a girl friend in abroad mean the boy is in relation. Not any family in India is so advance who thougth that with a girl friend he lefted "KUARA" i.e. "groom". If u remembered the +ve or warm welcome from his family & friends then U can sure about ur +ve . keep ur relationship as usual. But don't make physical relationship with him. If u did this already. U can start talking with his family as their boy's girl friend. You can do this before ur bf. I think he has also no objection if he realy loves u & want u as life partner. Only do +ve & lovely talk about family, relatives and their likes dislikes somthing

Oh, and when i had a boyfriend, i kept it a secret because my parents would say that i wouldn't be concentrating in school. That's why he told you that he would tell his parents after he finished studies.
I'm of Asian Background, but i think it's the same story.

My Indian friend says he wont tell his parents as he wont commit marry if he wanted to he would have told them by now

If you plan to get married - then whats the problem with him???? if he is just hanging yu around, in my mind that comes down to using you - please dont hang around waiting for him to marry someone else, that his family will choose/be happy for , i would give it a time scale and then if no introduction/engagement then really consider if he is the man for you???
