Why can it not be both?

The faith of many spouses have lead to the conviction of many people. This is one reason why the Catholic Church allows Catholics to marry non-Catholics.

May the Lord be with Mr Blair and his family.

The Catholic Church accepts all recovering sinners. No repentant sinner is ever turned away.

With love in Christ.

His conversion may not be real, except to Catholics.

Be advised that there will be no denominations in Heaven. Anyone who has read and believed the Bible would know that. Had Tony Blair read and believed the Bible, he would not have identified with his wife's religion, but would have entreated her to believe the Gospel of Christ.

Nonetheless, every Catholic who accepts the Gospel of Christ will join the ranks of the redeemed, regardless of their geographical location (see John, chapter 4).
Every Catholic who believes that Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many will join with the rest of us as heirs of God. For there is no difference, because God is no respecter of persons. All who call upon the Name of the Lord will be saved, but all who trust in Man will be condemned. God has not rejected Catholic Christians who believe on his Name, nor has He accepted professing Prostestants who attempt to enter His Kingdom as anything other than a "little child", i.e, as one completely dependant upon His word alone, and not upon the words of men.

i think Tony Blair has been a catholic for a very long time but he was not man enough or true to his chosen faith because he was obsessed with his political power trip which would never have got underway if he had embraced Catholicism. as a catholic prime minister would never have been permitted in the UK

The two denotations are Catholic teaching in general. One is universal and one is state. He's making it universal in his Castle.

With the prospect of Prince Charles at it's head, along with most church going Brit's going back to their religious roots, where else can he go?
