Not sure whether "spanking" or the strap is "necessary" in schools. Some kids sure are brats and likely would benefit from a strapping ... or from the possibility of it!!
.
As I've heard some school principals say, it is better to use other methods rather than spank/strap ... but that sometimes it is necessary to get the kid's attention and that is quickly done with a yardstick or pointer on the seat of the trousers.
.
mkm asked: "Is spanking necessary in schools?"
Maybe, in some schools
Probably in the school where mkm attends. Otherwise, just think of what mkm would miss!!

Been removed from schools here in Australia now. If I heard about my child being "spanked", I would likely be arrested for using the said instrument as a marital aid on the perp.

Spanking begins in the home! Then there wouldn't have to be spanking in the school.

No Way. But I can see it from the teachers perspective also.
kids swear at teachers. No wonder kids do not respect anything today. I think I was a smart *** when iwas a kid. I have had it pretty good. And on rare times I have given my
children swats.

Parents should be able to spank their children if they see fit. Teachers should not.
Some kids need disciplining
