The 54g in the the model number of the wi-fi router means that it can handle up to 54mbs. For residental use this is usually way more power then your acutal internet provider sends to your home. The only only two providers that come close are Verizon Fios and Optimum Online which currently max out at 30-50mbs depending on where you live. Also note that the speed of your network depends more on the internet connection your provider sends you then it does on your router. The better your route ("n" rated routers are currently the best) the farther you can roam within your home without losing your internet connection speed or quality.

Typically, hard wired is faster than WiFi, but if your ISP speed is capped below the WiFi mid-point, it doesn't really matter.
