It depends by what you mean when you say no access. Does the drive spin at all and if so what message do you get in the bios? If the drive does not spin I can give you some info but I need you to tell me what happens when you boot up.

EDIT
____
Before you shell out for Spinrite (which has a good reputation) look at these websites first http://www.deadharddrive.com/ and http://www.deadharddrive.com/forums/ My hard drive died after a lightening strike and I'll be giving that a go when I can get the time.

Stop using the hard drive NOW!!!

Then, if it still spins up and doesn't make grinding noises, try SpinRite 6 ($90) from http://www.grc.com

It could be the best money you ever spent.

If it doesn't spin up or it makes grinding noises, it will cost over a $1000 to have a pro recover your data. Google for: hard disk data recovery

All hard drives fail, we just don't know when. In the future, do Back Ups regularly and you won't have this problem.

If it is making unusual noises it may be physically damaged although this is unlikely. It may just be certain parts of your hard drive are damaged. Have you tried booting your computer with the Windows recovery cd, selecting the repair mode and fixing the mbr and boot record with FIXMBR and FIXBOOT?
If so, or if this doesn't work, download Spinrite (http://www.grc.com/spinrite). You will need to pay for it but it is the best thing out there to fix hard drives.

if the problem is with your system drive alone, then you can live boot from an ubuntu disk and then copy your stuff to anywhere you want to.

or, your logic circuit could be shot. if it is, then you can just replace the logic circuit wit another one (temporarily), then back your data up, give back the other logic circuit to whoever you took it from, and then get a new hd...

but if your hd is making weird clunking noises, chances are that the reader head is stuck somewhere. then you need professional help...

Hi,

That is a sticky question, if the disc is really shot then the only way is to send it to a data recovery specialist firm.

Not a really practical solution as they are very, very expensive!

You may be able to use a FMBR utility, that fixes the master boot record.

Here is the addy for the utility, no guarantees though.

Good luck!

All data from hard drives is recoverable, but it cost big bucks. SO unless you have extremely important data on it, pitch it! Not worth it. I think it's more than 500 dollars to recover lost hard drive data. gl

Data will most likely have to be retrieved by a professional which will probably be costly.

Have you checked the hardware side? Connections etc?
