Do you have more trouble being around a person with:
a) a physical deformity like a red birthmark or a missing hand?
b) a speech problem, like stuttering?
c) a developmental delay, like mental retardation or autism?
d) an attitude problem, such as arrogance, being obnoxious, or being uncooperative with the group you work or play with?
I am wondering if people have more dislike of others if they feel the problem is "in their control", like attitude, as opposed to something the other person obviously can't help.

ummm... tolerate is different the being uncomfortable around.... so I will answer as you asked, tolerate.
would be the attitude problem.....
But there is some thing you have to realize that some attitude problems are a personality disorder, and there is a point to which some personality disorders and other mental health disorders become a disability and it isn't something one can control.....

As someone who has both a speech impairment and a learning disability, I've been discriminated against all my life because of society's bad attitude towards the disabled. I have a harder time dealing with the obnoxious and arrogant attitude more than anything else. Nothing pisses me off more than having someone does not know me at all call me "A retard" due to my disabilities. That is the quickest way to have me as a enemy.

Attitude problems are the most irritating. The only time I'm uncomfortable around someone with a disability is because I try very hard not to act like I even notice that they have any kind of disability. You know, don't stare or smile at them in a pitying way; just treat them like anyone else.

D. But the way you phrased the question this is what most people will answer.
You haven't created examples of the different categories of disability if that is what you were going for. And the degrees of the problem people experience are not even. So if this is a school project - you aren't going to et a good grade because you started out with a poorly worded question.

Definitely d).
Because ultimately, the person's true self will always be evident. Physical attibutes mean nothing - "beauty being only skin deep" and all that.
Case in Point: Stephen Hawking.
Some caution might be advised:
Don't confuse arrogance with confidence.
Being uncooperative might reflect poor group behaviour.
Being obnoxious can be fun.

Those with an attitude problem I find intolerable.
I am a mental health (illness and retardation) professional and I have great affection and respect for them. I am not bothered by disabilities over which they have no control.

None of these especially bother me...I have worked with people with many different types of disabilities.
As for the attitude, this can sometimes be caused by many different factors. Sometimes the person is just having a bad day...I don't take it personally.

Like any one was gonna give you any other answer than D. We all want to look politically correct and not mean or intolerant of people with disabilities. I have family members with A,B and C so my choice just like everyone else's (even the ones who don't know anyone in categories A thru C) was easy

It is harder for me to tolerate people who label people and look at them for only one certain aspect of their lives instead of seeing a whole person.
Do you actually dislike people because they are disabled??? Wow!!!
Everyone has flaws, some are just visible, while yours may not be. In many ways, your disability of being judgmental is worse than those you mention.
