I had never heard of such a thing but apparently they are common in the commercial cleaning industry. From what I understand it is basically a canister style machine, that straps on your back, then you just have to keep up with the cord and the hose....it's like carrying a canister with you. GENIUS! The only thing I don't like about canister vacs is that you drag them behind you. Imagine it off the floor!

I wonder if there is one specially designed for home use, at a more friendly price?

Users, what are your thoughts?

Are the bags easily available and reasonably priced?

I am a custodian at a university and we use them. They are ok after you get used to the wieght. They arent that heavy. They are bulky and you have to pay attention to what is around you so you wont knock things off. I would prefer a cannister one with an extra long hose or one that is within the walls.

A backpack vacuum cleaner has been created keeping in mind the comfort factor of those using them. It is almost like walking around the home or office with a backpack except that this one comes with a brush. If you are thinking of investing in commercial vacuum cleaner then it’s definitely the right choice. Once you have a backpack vacuum cleaner, you won’t have to go through the motions of an awkward drag that most people experience while using the canister vacuum cleaner. But most importantly, it offers portability!

The backpack models are a bit annoying when you multitask. Every time I bent over to empty a trash can while vacuuming I got beaned in the head. I went right back to my upright with a long extension cord.

i use a backpack vacuum at work, i think they are a great think, they allow you to work a lot faster then the ordinary pull along, they don't get stuck on the furniture, i find they are easier to carry around as i go up and down a lot of stairs at work, i would never give up my backpack, my other collegues do not like them as they say they give them a sore back, but if you wear it correctly you should not have any trouble

We had a custodian at my place of employment that used one. We had a good time with her, told her she looked like she had on a jet pak. We expected her to just shoot up through the roof at any moment. Sorry this wasnt a very serious answer. I have no idea how she liked it.
