The red battery light lit up in my 89 toyota pickup earlier today. Then as I was driving the radio shut off(like it was no longer getting any power). Then as I continued driving I noticed that my headlights were getting dimmer and all the lights on my dash as well, getting dimmer and dimmer as I drove. I made it home, turned my truck off, and it would not restart. Any ideas??

The burning red light means the alternator is not putting out current to replace the power used out the battery after starting and while running the lights and other electrical ascessories like the radio. ( some guys have mean audio systems and they drain a battery in no time )
Causes : Loose or broken connections , ( check the plugs , lugs, and wiring coming in and out the alternator, pulley belts for loose or broken ) ,or the alternator needs to be repaired.
When the alternator does not charge, the car runs on the battery untill it is flat.

This sounds like a bad alternator. As the previous poster suggested you have killed your battery power. However, check your belts too as you may have broken a belt. Once you install a new Belt or alternator you will need to jump start the vehicle and your batteries will build up a charge again.

Could be the alternator going out or lose main electric wire corroded. first check the battery if the post look like there corroded clean them with a 1 lime squeeze over the terminals don't get the juice on you cloths it will make a hole. then let 1 min stand then wash with water. good as new. If still no worki then take out the alternator take to your local automparts store to get tested for free.

Sounds like your alternator. If you can jump start it have some one follow you to a autoparts store like autozone or kragens. They will do an ARBS test and tell you exactly and there is no charge for the service.
