When I answer questions here or on the rare occasions when I chat online, I make sure I use good grammar, that I use punctuation, spell as correctly as I can and have as few typos as possible. That's one reason I don't go to chatrooms so often; people give me hell about it. (I had some Brits referring to me as 'pedantic'.) When you've relied on your written language skills to earn a living, it would be stupid to give them up for a little online entertainment.

I moved to the deep south about 10 years ago and both my grammar and my enunciation have suffered. It is more noticeable when I am speaking than when I'm writing. I am old and uncool so I don't know all those cutesy computer abbreviations, therefore the computer hasn't affected me that much. ;-)

I was a technical writer for more than 25 years and used a lot of computer related acronyms. I admit to using a shortcut now and then (like LMAO) but I endeavor to keep my writing readable.

I write for a living, so I can't afford to let my grammar slip. I'm even a stickler about grammar in text messages.

No, I cant stand doing that.
I've been typing forever, and I type all my words out. I've known people who have had serious problems because when they started typing for grades and proffesional things, they where too used to typing in chatspeak.
:D
I still like using smileys though :) They help express my face.
