My greatgrandmother was "Memmy Morgan." I always thought "Memmy" meant grandmother. I started a new job recently, where a woman is nicknamed Memmy. Does Memmy really mean Grandmother, or does it mean something else? Does it come from another language (Polish, etc.)?

I'm not sure. I called my grandmother granny. I bet someone in your family just called her Memmy Morgan & it just stuck. I've never heard of Memmy before. I'm sure this hasn't helped. Do a name search and try to find Memmy. Riddle me this...my dad's grandfathers name was Oliver..but when he tried to say it it came out Wob....so we called him Wob

My grandparents were always Nan and Grandad. I`ve never heard of Memmy, but it sounds quite nice.

My brothers and I called our grand-parents by their first names all our lives. Now that I'm older, it seems disrespectful and I've started calling her Grandmama. I wish my family hadn't done it that way really, but apparently that's the way they wanted it done.

I've never heard Memmy. That's a new one.

In India, we have very sweet names for our grandmothers. The paternal grandmother is addressed as ' Daadee' and the maternal grandmother is called as 'Naanee'
Every one has a lifelong remembrance of love received from Daadee and Naanee.
