The Biblical account of the event is a bit misleading vs. the truth of the matter. The star was seen as much as a year prior to Jesus' birth. The way it's portraid in the Bible it sounds like it happened at the same time. Jewish profecies predicted the signs but gave a lot of leaway regarding exact dates. They wouldn't have found Jesus right away and probably had to do a lot of searching. Also, the star was a supernova that modern astronomers have traced back to roughly the same period.

If you choose to believe the bible at least believe it correctly. By the time the wise men supposedly found Jesus he was about 2 yrs old and living in a house with his mother.

Since you put this into the Astronomy & Space category, i.e., science, I can now reveal that the star of Bethlehem was a mother ship reflecting the light of the sun as would a satellite. This spacecraft was home to the beings we called angels, as well as to the Big Guy himself. The angels are still among us, disguised as charitable humans. (Don't agree? Prove me wrong!)
